I have some potentially unfortunate news. It looks like Hyatt will no longer be associated with Ocean Casino Resort as of January 1, 2020.

It's only a guess (but likely a good one) because I tried to make an award booking but couldn't find any available for any date in 2020. I spoke with someone at Hyatt and was told that that no awards will be accepted after January 1, 2020. They had no other info other than that but I guess a formal announcement will be made soon. I sure hope I’m wrong.

While Ocean did have some challenges, it also is one of the best properties in Atlantic City, if not THE best. It is also one of my favorite places for a quick weekend getaway to use my points plus get my breakfast benefit plus and the resort fee waived as a Globalist. I’ll be sad to see it go if this is true.

Does anyone else have any info on this?

UPDATE: I tried booking a stay for June via the app and it shows the Double Your Points rate and Hyatt Member Rate Advance Purchase as options. Awards are not bookable (via the app or in any way) so it seems odd that these Hyatt exclusive (and points earning!) rates are still available, right? Perhaps they are not accepting awards because they are changing categories? Either way, I hope my guess is wrong and they aren't leaving Hyatt. Time will tell....

FWIW I just did several searches, I found rates available after 1/1/20, including points(still 12,000) so may be a short term glitch when you checked.

Edit: I no longer see point stays either. I tried several.

Well, I wish I had been wrong, but I got official confirmation today. Sadly Ocean will no longer be affiliated with Hyatt as of January 1, 2020.

This is a true loss for me (and it sounds like it will be for others, too.) I wonder what happened here, but my guess is it has something to do with the new owners and management of the property. Oh well.

I plan on going there to top of my last stay or 2 for the year. Too bad, it's in a convenient location for me, plus the winter mid-week prices are pretty good for a mattress run.

Did they give you a reason why they curtailed the relationship with Hyatt ?

My best guess (based on what I was told) is that anything booked prior to the announcement (whenever that is, I have no clue) will be honored as is. But that is just a guess.

No reason given at all. An official announcement needs to come at some point. But I doubt they'll truly let us know why.

For those who said they planned to stay here, you may want to book upcoming stays now so you can use your benefits and earn points/night credits. I have no info on this (it's just a guess) so please don't rely on this.

You can always book a refundable rate and then you have nothing to lose. There is typically "grandfathering" that goes on in situations like this, but again, this is just my guess, so don't rely on this.

Sadly, it's official official. Ocean Resort in Atlantic City no longer a Hyatt as of 2020

“Due to our continued success, our hotel volumes no longer permit preferential booking for Hyatt Loyalty guests,”

I find that hard to believe, since it was reported that a lot of Hyatt loyalists had a lot of problems with getting benefits getting honored there. They didn't really seem caring of providing benefits, but just taking advantage of having the Hyatt name attached to the property.

I'm assuming it's due to people like me, who book $399 rooms on the weekends for 12K points

(good luck during the week though!)

Guess I was part of the problem too, it was a great redemption that I did last Summer a couple of times.

I wish that Hyatt would get affiliated with the Borgata (part of MGM), I prefer it more because Borgata gives out very generous offers to MGM Gold Members.

Well I guess I can cancel my WOH credit card that I just opened in April. The only reason I got it was to use the free night certs and sign up bonus points at Ocean. I got about 8 room nights in over the summer through the bonus and other point earnings.

disappointing...but it is what it is. I’m surprised Hyatt would agree to such a short contract.

yep. I easily got $3,000-$4,000 worth of rooms over the summer through Hyatt points. Which only required me running about $15,000 through a new WOH credit card. And I still have some points left...
