Hi Kristen, still curious as to why Centric isn't part of Prive. Do you know why?

An entry level suite (the same as for the TSU) would be well worth it if confirmed at time of booking (or within 24 hours, which is essentially the same). That would be a major draw for me. I've never been a fan of "upgrade if available at time of check-in". The 5-6 times we used Virtuoso at HR Kyoto we never once got an upgrade (not surprised, since out of our approx. 40 stays there as Diamond I think we might have been upgraded no more than 10 times). For a one-night stay the US$100 F&B credit (discounted close to 20% by their exchange rate) was nice, but for a 1-week stay or longer, I'd go with the 10% Senior/Member discount if I were still a Glob. As an Explo, the F&B credit plus breakfast might be worth it, but I can already get club access if it is a GH or HR.

After seeing this thread I did some searching and saw a lot of conflicting information on agents' websites, mot notably:

1. Some say room upgrade confirmed within 24 hours after booking, but others say "if available at time of check-in". A VERY significant difference. My experience with Virtuoso was that this was property-specific, some confirmed at time of booking while others subject to availability at check-in.

2. Some say (or rather hint at) upgrade to entry-level suites when booking the category immediately below, while others say that upgrades to suites require a suite to be booked. This too is property-specfic with Virtuoso.

As I posted above, now that I'm not longer a DIa/Glob, I'm more interested in this than I would have been previously, but the key for longer stays would be if the benefits outweigh the 10% Senior/Member rate discount.

Another question regards stacking of benefits. Would Explorists still be able to apply a Club Access Award on top of a Hyatt Prive booking?
Hyatt Privé bookings are upgraded room to room and suite to suite, and the upgrade is confirmed within 24 hours of booking (yes this is true). Getting an upgrade at the time of booking, when there’s a lot more inventory available, is definitely a great benefit.

In regards to using a Club Access Award with a Hyatt Prive booking… good question. I’m working on this and will post when I know more.

That's too bad. I was hoping it would be left up to the property. I can understand the reluctance at hotels where there are only a few entry level suites or where the difference between the entry level suite and the next lower category is really large, but at the property I'm most interested in, Andaz Singapore, the difference between the entry level suite and the next lower category is equivalent to about US$45, an nice perk for the guest that would not exactly bankrupt the hotel.

I guess a guaranteed upgrade is something but I'd want my Prive agent to be getting me as much as possible. NOT 1 category to 1 category upgrades. You would think Hyatt's in-house VIP program could equal best available room or suite like the loyalty program.

That isn’t a realistic expectation. The loyalty program doesn’t provide confirmed upgrades at booking, with the exception of TSUs. Hotels are not going to take entry level suites out of their inventory at the time of booking just because someone booked through a travel agent. That would be bad news for Globalists, given that anyone can book these rates as long as they are aware of the program.

A confirmed one category upgrade is still a nice perk, and a differentiator from Virtuoso for many properties.

I might be being pedantic but do Prive bookings count towards elite night requirements? You mentioned a guest earns loyalty points but I'd like to be clear the stay also counts.

The room to room, and suite to suite, 1 level upgrade is how the program is defined. A good Prive Advisor will always do everything they can to get you the best possible upgrade that is available. :-)

I have to agree with that assessment. It certainly was great as a Dia/Glob being able to book the lowest rate, even eligible discounted rates like Senior or Member rates and then applying a TSU to lock in a suite for a week, and if I were still a Glob I would not be pleased if anyone could just book the lowest Daily Rate with a travel agent and then get a confirmed upgrade to a suite. I'm perfectly satisfied with the confirmed 1-cat upgrade.

On the other hand, the non-Hyatt Virtuoso properties I've looked at that confirmed 1-category upgrade at time of booking all allowed upgrade to entry level suites and only prohibited premium suites.

Maybe I'll see what Andaz Singapore might offer. I was planning on a 2-week vacation in HK for CNY, since I got a very good Senior rate and was able to apply a couple of Club Access Awards, but my wife prefers Singapore to HK (I think she might me in the minority on that preference). We did our final stay as Glob at Andaz Singapore and I was saddened that there would be zero perks as an Explorist on future stays, so Prive might resolve some of that problem.

I am pleased to confirm that as an Explorist, you are able to use your Club Access Award with a Hyatt Privé reservation. You will just need to follow any instructions provided with the award in order to use it.

Thank you for confirming that. Looks like Prive will be a good option to consider in some cases.

So I assume there's a cap on the upgrade? Would be nice to do a GH with a TSU, then you get club as a Glob and full breakfast + one cat upgrade confirmed with Prive

I'd be surprised if they confirm an upgrade on top of a TSU. But still, there would be the option of breakfast in the restaurant, plus the F&B credit. On the downside, the rate would have to be the Daily Rate, so no discounted Member/Senior/AAA/corporate rates. And maybe more importantly, no P&C rate. So it might be a good option sometimes, but certainly not always.

I'm curious. If you know that people stay 55 to 60 nights in order to earn benefits, and then you can get the same benefits by choosing a specific travel agent who is in cahoots with the hotel ... what does that actually FEEL like, to cheat the system like that? Just curious.
