Grand Hyatt Baha Mar

Forgive me as I am new to the World of Hyatt. I don't know if this is true but I was reading that Grand Hyatt Baha Mar charges a $52.00 resort fee for each night and the fee is not included at the time of booking. From what I have read, the resort fees are due at check out. Is this also true for World of Hyatt member pricing booked on the Hyatt web site? I'm trying to avoid a surprise at check out. Thanks!

A daily Resort Fee of $30 plus tax will be added to your rate. Click here to view inclusions.

I picked a random day (Mar 15- Mar 16)

Thu, Mar 15$375.00 USD
Subtotal$375.00 USD
Service Charge$20.63 USD
N P I P B V A T$1.69 USD
Room V A T$28.12 USD
C B R A V A T$1.12 USD
N P I P B Levy$22.50 USD
C B R A Levy$15.00 USD
Resort Fees$32.25 USD
Total Taxes & Fees$121.31 USD
Total Per Room*$496.31 USD

So it looks like it does include the resort fee. ($30 + some sort of tax = $32.25).

In other words, USE POINTS. The VAT/taxes/resort fees are all waived for points bookings. And it counts for night credit as well. Nights are 20K points, so in this case you get about 2.5 cents/point, which is well above pretty much any reasonable valuation.

Even Cash + Points tacks on a LOT of fees:

Thu, Mar 15$125.00 USD
Subtotal$125.00 USD
Service Charge$20.63 USD
C B R A Levy$5.00 USD
Resort Fees$32.25 USD
N P I P B V A T$0.56 USD
C B R A V A T$0.38 USD
Room V A T$9.38 USD
N P I P B Levy$7.50 USD
Total Taxes & Fees$75.70 USD
Total Per Room*
10,000 Points
+ $200.70 USD

So if you can acquire Hyatt points (or Chase points) at <2 cents, this is a slam dunk. Even if you don't have a lot, the 10K points will save $300.
You can even buy 10K points from Hyatt at $240, and 20K points for $384. So you can still save money at those ridiculous rates.

Perfect! This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

From what I've been reading, there is also a mandatory service fee (housekeeping gratuity) of about $20/day which is also shown above. That plus the $32 resort fee equals the $52 that OP was asking about.

I actually booked a last-minute stay here for next week, and the rates for a close-in booking are much lower than the rates picked for March 15-16 above.

If you are a Hyatt Globalist, the resort fee is waived (but not the service fee), so, IMHO, it is more economical to spend $$ rather than points for a close-in booking.

With that said, it's quite remarkable how high the taxes/fees are at this property. It seems that not only do customers need to be on the lookout for "Resort Fees" (waived for globalist), but "Service Fees" (not waived) as well.

How long until we start seeing $100/night rates advertised with $300 in fees?

The only mitigating factor with all these fees is that it is a wonderful property.

Anyone stay here lately? Debating this property or the SLS for a quick getaway from the crappy weather on the East Coast. I really like the SLS brand, but the service at new hotels scare me.
