Falling Hyatt prices in Asia

Has anyone else noticed room prices falling across the board in Asia ex-Japan?

The Grand Hyatt Hong Kong used to charge in excess of HK$3,500 for a basic room, but it can now be had for as low as HK$1,850.

The HR TST in the same town can go down to as low as HK$1,300 per night.

I stayed at the HR Perth for A$132/night two weeks ago.

In Taipei, they used to set the Hyatt Daily Rate at over T$8,000 (which always seemed overly high for a market like Taipei, but nevermind). Today, I regularly see it for T$6,500 or so.

I've moved most of my stays away from Hyatt since WoH, but it seems the fall is more stark at Hyatt than the other chains I stay at. Having said that, Hyatt was also consistently more expensive than the other brands.

I'm not seeing it in Shanghai. In fact prices have been increasing recently since I booked Grand Hyatt Shanghai at Costco rate of 1260 RMB. Park Hyatt rates are higher than I can justify on expense report.

It's not just Hyatt. It's Hong Kong hotel prices overall (and presumably elsewhere in Asia). Prices at Conrad, JW, and RC HKG are lower than I've ever seen.

True. I'm seeing the same drastic fall in places like Singapore too, where I could book the Fairmont for S$203 for a weekend stay last week. I also booked the Conrad SIN for just over S$220 one time about a month ago.

The GH SIN, however, is still stubbornly charging $320/night. I have a corporate rate that brings it down somewhat, but it's not my favourite property in Singapore, so I usually just stay elsewhere.

I lucked into one of the Fairmont ~$200 rates. Made it hard to justify C+P at the GH SIN so will have to shorten that leg.

This is usually a leading indicator of troubling times............just my humble opinion.
