Which Hyatt in Washington DC?

I managed to get 2 tickets to the new African American museum in DC. While we may do the trip in one day, we are considering staying overnight.

Which property puts us closest to that part of the mall? We've been to DC before, but stayed at the Fairmont to burn some free nights.

I made a reservation at the GH, just to hold it on points, since their daily rate was really high - as in $529. I'm thinking it's a mistake and it will come down. The PH is across the street from the Fairmont and we have to cab it to the mall, so that's not doable, but what about the rest of them?

Just check out AwardMapper. It layers chain hotels onto Google Maps.

Hyatt Place White House and Grand Hyatt are the closest (17 minute walk)

I would stick with the GH. To me it's better located-- closer to Metro, more walkable to restaurants/etc.

Consider the Hyatt Place Washington DC/National Mall.

Thanks very much all. I'm probably going to stick with the GH.

Mary - I just came back from a stay at PH DC. I know it's a bit farther away than you want to be, but I took uberpool to the national mall and it was only $4.53 for two people. Not sure if that helps you or not, but thought I'd throw that out there in case you want to consider uber.

We have used Uber to get from the Fairmont, which is across the street from the PH, and found it pretty inexpensive also - about $7.50 each way.

If flying into an airport to get into DC and relying upon public transit and/or taking a train to get to DC, the GH DC works pretty well.

If driving into DC and needing street parking, well, then perhaps that may change the selection choice a bit for some.

I prefer the PH DC, but it usually costs substantially more than the other Hyatt hotels around the area.

We'll be driving on a Saturday and will probably be stuck paying the ridiculous parking charge - because I suspect the parking is not run by the hotel so I would get it comped

I got parking comped on a free night at the Grand Hyatt a week or two ago. Remember that it's not about whether the parking is "run" by the hotel but whether it is "billed" to the hotel, and the $52 valet parking charge is absolutely billed to your room at the GH DC.

By the way, I don't think your $529 rate was a mistake, it is frequently that high (although also frequently <$200). I have stayed at this property a few times. It is not worth the >$200 price tag, but it is a perfectly pleasant place to stay with a location that is hard to beat. The Grand Club is also fairly decent in the evening -- a good selection of liquors are available for $4 a pour.

Thanks. Yes, I've seen it that expensive too. I really wanted C&P, but it's not available.
