Buying a Hyatt gift card off Amazon.com

Any experience w/ buying a Hyatt gift card off Amazon.com?

I got pretty excited - great gift idea - but I don't like this part: To redeem value of your Hyatt Gift Card or Hyatt eGift Card present card/number to the Hyatt front desk agent, restaurant server or spa associate

I guess it's fine, but I was hoping it could be applied at check-out, online.

Any experience here?

Why? Visiting the front desk at one's convenience during a stay seems quite reasonable.

Seems equally reasonable to apply the credit when you book the reservation...

Hi All
This is reminder that Hyatt Gift Cards can only be used at checkout
They will not work online nor can they be credited at check in
Tihis means you must wait online at checkout and there may or may not be a line
Also while some hotels process theses easily a number of them struggle
I have waited up to a hour to process at hotels at checkout
Some have new agents or agents that haven't processed one
If you wish something easier order Hyatt checks which can be credited to your account /guest portfolio at check in and any remaining balance can simply be billed to the card at checkout
Cheers

So (if I am reading this right) the down sides are that you can't use these card to book a pay-in-advance non-refundable rate and that you need to give yourself time on check-out as it might take awhile to process these cards?

Offering prepayment without a penalty opens the vendor to the costs and risks of acceptance, accounting and refund.

What is the need being addressed? This is a service without a benefit.

I'm a big Amazon fan, but don't think I'd buy these on Amazon unless discounted at least 10%.

Hyatt puts these on sale, for 10% off, and places like Raise often run sales for even bigger amounts.

This is what I'm getting at. I'm not usually around for check-out, as I leave at peak times when the line is long - thereby just 'walking out'...

While it's a shame I can't apply the thing online or during check-in (as a credit applied towards the final folio), it's not a make or break issue.

Simply asking...

While I've never tried crediting gift cards at check-in, I have credited gift cards during my stay after my folio balance has exceeded the balance of my card. This is often days before my check-out date. I usually swing by the front desk when I see no lines and have the card applied to my bill. That's a lot easier than dealing with it at check-out.

I've been able to apply credit before the formal check out process. I usually just head down and do it when things look quiet... IT tends to take a shade longer because of the inputting of numbers...

Can you perhaps use Amazon gift cards to buy these? so if one buys Amazon GC at Staples with INK that's 5x points right there...

I've used a physical and e-gift card ~10 times and I've never had it add more than a couple of minutes to check out.

I've used e-gift card twice so far; no long delay at check out. I always physically check out.

You can not purchase Amazon Gift Cards to purchase the Hyatt Gift Cards

From Amazon -
Amazon.com Gift Cards cannot be used as a method of payment for this item.

I was hoping to do this while waiting for the next 10% Hyatt sale.

+1, if I suspect trouble, I will stop by the front desk on the way to Breakfast and ask if they will swipe the Gift Card, or do they need to call it in. I will leave them the card and pick it up on the way out.

I use Hyatt gift checks (the old Costco ones). Generally, I stop by the front desk at a random time during the stay and ask to have them applied. There is no requirement that the balance exceed the value of the checks applied.
