Then in those countries the check would be timely.

Beyond that, how important is the waiter's opinion to you? If you had to choose between catching a flight by asking for the check and having a waiter think you are extremely rude, which would you choose?
He's saying it's rude for the waiter to bring the check before the guest requests it, not the other way around.

Exactly. In fact, I've seen some people complain to the manager or owner if the (rude) waiter brings the bill before being asked. It's viewed as an attempt to have the customer leave immediately, despite the fact that the convention (again, for example, for good restaurants in France) is that when you reserve a table, it's yours for the entire evening. These places don't try to recycle tables by taking reservations at two hour intervals or whatever, although they will try to stagger the reservation times to make it easier for the staff to provide good service when everyone isn't arriving, ordering, and expecting food at the same time.

OP here. I joined WoH this January after some unexpected heavy work travel was planned in Hyatt friendly locations. I'm now over 70 nights and got the email asking me whether I wanted 10000 points or a suite upgrade, so I would have thought that they could also have sent an email about the concierge benefit just as easily.

I haven't contacted Hyatt yet, as I'm not quite sure how the benefit would actually benefit me.

Thanks for that clarification, but now I don't understand the point. When that was originally stated, it was to be careful about asking for the check. ("Be careful. In some countries/cultures, it would be considered extremely rude to bring the check before it has been requested by the guest. This includes the best restaurants in France.")

Why would we need to be careful about asking for the check?

You wouldn't. But you said you would ask instead of stewing, which to me implies that you would rather ask instead being upset about a service failure by the waiter. And then the comment essentially was that it isn't a service failure in many countries.

Implicitly I said "be careful about what you assume." In other words, you're uninformed about how this works in significant parts of the world, but I was trying to be a bit polite.

Yes, I understand that but Kaltor's post above mine notes
"I asked the WOH Specialist and she said that even if you qualified for Diamond/Glob with over 60 nights in 2016, you don't get the Hyatt Concierge until you qualify with 60 nights in 2017."

Hence my response. It does not make sense that those with a concierge in 2016 would continue with one in 2017, but those who recently qualified for one in 2016 would have to requalify in '17 before being assigned. I still think the OP should try reaching out again using a few different types of media.

Over 70 nights and still not contacted. I was on the phone about a suite upgrade so at the end of the call I asked about this benefit. After being on hold for 30 minutes, the agent wasn't able to locate any information about it. Seems it's a bit of a mystery benefit.

Ask the WoH Concierge here on FT?

Seems there could be conflicting information about this benefit even within Hyatt. I asked about it when talking to the World of Hyatt Specialist who contacted me about my issues with the new program, and they said that the concierge benefit is a new benefit that didn't exist before World of Hyatt, and that you could only get it after 60 nights this year.

I know from this forum that that isn't true. The next question is, does the WOH specialist know it isn't true and said so anyway for some reason, or they don't know either?

My last couple calls to the telephone have had WOH reps who are clearly very new. IIRC, the last time I called to add a suite upgrade award was the first time the gentleman had done one. (to put it in perspective).

I've had the same experience with inexperienced WOH customer service, however the person who told me this inaccurate information about the concierge service is one of the special ops people whose job is to calm down the unhappy globalists and/or find out what's not working for them about the program... e.g. I was cold contacted by this person, it wasn't a call to the WOH line.

My new WOH Glob Concierge has apparently already quit the job. I got an email saying that I now have a new one, someone who has worked in Hyatts for a while but not so much with reservations or elite phone service. I'm skeptical about how this will work.

I want my private line agent back, PLEASE.

Didn't I read somewhere that Diamonds with PLA were allowed to keep them?

Yeah, and that's what my private line agent told me, but I was reassigned anyway. Perhaps the outcome would have been better if I had stayed *fewer* nights in Hyatts this year.
