This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-world-hyatt/1825293-world-hyatt-globalist-experiences-tier-suite-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html?icamp=woh_benefitbadges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

I hate begging or arguing for a suite, so I never ask. Some people do, with various degrees of pushiness.

In Asia, I've usually never had to ask but there are some stingy properties like HR Tokyo that never freely give suites. We'll see how it goes in the States later this month!

I've only have a couple of properties give me one without asking, but I have had high success with asking (no begging involved).

When I checkin and they start to tell me where they've placed me, I turn up the Texas accent a bit and politely but forcefully say, "do ya'll have any suites available tonight?" When the Hyatt site shows an available suite, I've had basically a 100% success rate.

It's clear the staff at these places know the policy, because they immediately acquiesce and accommodate without asking a manager, etc. Pretty sure the general training approach (at least at US Hyatts where I'm predominantly at) is "give it to them if they ask, but don't be proactive."

HR Newport Beach- Villa

I was pleasantly surprised by an upgrade to a Villa Suite (with private pool) at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach over Labor Day weekend. We only had one night at the property (Sunday), and there were a lot of weddings happening that weekend, so maybe they thought it would be better to move me to a room likely not to sell so they could sell my basic room? Regardless, great value for my Category 1-4 certificate.

Upgraded to Suites - Asia Properties

I did a two-week trip to Asia, and stayed mostly at Hyatt properties. I am happy to report that they all honored the new WoH benefits without asking:

PH Saigon - Park Suite (2 nights, using award nights)
HR Danang - Suite (1 night, on P&C)
PH Tokyo - Park Suite (1 night, on P&C)

Separately, I easily confirmed the upgrade using DSU at the PH Bangkok (as the suite at GH Erawan was not available).

PH Bangkok - Park Executive Suite (4 nights, using DSU)

Park hyatt Tokyo

I stayed for one night last week and got upgraded to the diplomate suite on points the hotel was amazing in every way. I invited a friend for twilight time as well and he made a video if anyone wishes to see that room as well as the tokyo suite. As another note I talked with the director of rooms and he said they other then some minor upgrades nothing would be renovated till after the Olympics.

Checked into the HR Osaka and even though there's a wedding going on and 2 conferences and no suites available, still received a suite.

You're lucky! I've never gotten more than a high floor room at HRO. IME, HRO along with HR Tokyo and GH Fukuoka are the worst in Asia when it comes to giving out suites (and before the WoH terms kicked in, they were stingy with "best non-suite room" upgrades).

HR Osaka

HR Osaka only has, I believe, 3 or 4 standard (non-diplomatics, non-speciality) suites (120 square meters) out of 400+ rooms, so it is hard to get upgraded to these. The next step down seems to be the corner rooms at 90 square meters. Judging from the lights on in the corner windows at night, they do aggressively try to fill these, and I am almost always upgraded to them. They have 2 of these per floor, it seems, so about 40 in the building. Based on the number of people at the Regency Club at night, they seem to have enough Globalists and people who pay to upgrade to a club room, that all these rooms could be regularly filled.

I got the Diplomatic Suite once. Was quite a shock because I was just anticipating a room to slum it in.

Has anyone gotten an upgrade to a suite at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok recently?
I was talking to a couple of globalist friends of mine who visited Bangkok in the summer, and they told me they did not end up receiving suite upgrades even though the hotel's website was selling suites when they checked in.
When they inquired about globalist suite upgrades, they were told unfortunately the best the hotel could do was upgrading them to the club/deluxe rooms.

Hyatt Regency Nice

2 nights (1 cash+point, 1 free night award)

Got upgraded to a deluxe king room on 8th floor with sea view (which is mostly blocked by the columns)

Asked for any suites availability, was told there is a premium suite available but it's not ready and has no sea view at all. So took the initial upgrade to a deluxe king room. (No need of more space anyway as im solo traveler)

Overall quite impressed with the service and didnt feel cheated not being upgraded.
