This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-world-hyatt/1825293-world-hyatt-globalist-experiences-tier-suite-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html?icamp=woh_benefitbadges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

They have a grand total of 1 suite to my knowledge.

Grand Hyatt Shenzhen

Checked in at 2300 as Globalist and was told no suite or upgrade available. Checked the Hyatt app and showed the agent suite availability, and he grudgingly upgraded me to it.

Colleague (no status, first stay) who was checking in next to me was automatically upgraded to a suite without asking. What's that about?!

I asked the Grand Club about this while checking out, and they just gave me a "oh I'll remind my colleague to be more alert" response.

I would tell upper management rather than the Grand Club.

It really pisses me off when I add an award night to the end of a paid stay, and they tell me that now the entire stay is ineligible for a suite upgrade.

Yep, it's a very stupid rule..... but they know people normally do this to extend their suite stay with one night. They should simply make you move when the suite isn't available any more, but that would piss people off as well....

I was at PHNY this weekend as a Diamond member for one night. I arrived early and encountered this: check-in agent said that I can have a Park Deluxe King right away or if I wait until the 4pm regular check-in time, I may be prioritized to a Jr Suite (that's the type TSU is booked into. A Jr Suite was available for sale on the web site at my check-in time). there is a big "BUT." BUT I cannot get a room first and then when a room becomes available, I can be moved. I guess this literally meets the new program definition of the "best room available at the time of check-in", but it did leave me a bit disappointed.

HR Vancouver. No (they are nice about it, but no)

HR San Francisco. No they were sold out. Plenty of availability on the website.

After these two the only other Hyatts I will stay in now are International properties. My wife wanted to use my miles to go to Maui and I said no. Hyatt screws you over in Maui on points, we need cash.

How do you mean they screw you out of points? I love the Andaz Maui, use my points there all the time. Great nearby parking, amazing (as far as domestic goes) free breakfast, a really amazing shore-accessed beach reef right at the resort, Ulua and Mokapu are two great little beaches, Morimoto is a great restaurant. (OK, room furnishings aren't so good)

Hyatt Place Asheville. Booked two queen, upgraded to premium view king. 5-night stay. They have suites here and I've been upgraded to them on shorter stays, but frankly this room was better as it faced away from the interstate.

Management was willing to work with me on getting a specific corporate rate. Very good service before and during the stay.

Anyone still 4 out of 4 on TSUs thanks to all these complementary upgrades? Perhaps we should make a naughty list so we know where to burn TSUs and where to sweet talk.

Hyatt Regency Mexico City had full availability on the website (all categories of suite available, and obviously low occupancy because rates low). No Globalist upgrade.
