This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-world-hyatt/1825293-world-hyatt-globalist-experiences-tier-suite-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html?icamp=woh_benefitbadges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

The larger executive suite was available, and I asked at check-in if they had a suite for me, but it not offered (and I didn't expect it to be).

I can't imagine the suites are sold on a mid-week in March, so I'm assuming a few other Globs checked in before me and picked up the suite.
Same issue at that hotel. But the base rates for the suites were pretty low so I can see how people might have booked them.

Checked into the HR Santa Clara for a two night stay (actually did an online checkin). Was assigned a stadium view room, so really no upgrade. Knew that balcony rooms were available so I prodded. Was assigned to a balcony on the 12th floor (original room was on 13). So, no proactive upgrade whatsoever. Flat out asked them what their upgrade policy is. Was told they try to assign high floor and quiet (so that must be their definition of "best available"). Absolutely no mention of better room category (I don't consider stadium view a category since those were just standard rooms before the stadium was built). They did mention that they had very few suites, but I think I was given a different number than the last time I asked

Opinions please.... Should these be split into U.S. and non-U.S. properties, doubling the categories but making things easier to find?

Yet another 1 night stay at HR Sha Tin. Arrived for check in at 7:30PM and given the entry level room I booked. Returned to the lounge and asked about this in light of every level of room being available for booking. Lounge guy said it was the only room he had on the club floor which is just lazy on his part. Oh, and I had to wait for 20 min to be checked in because he was on the phone (I did quaff a drink or two and scarf down a plate of salad in the meantime but no room number meant no internet).

In the end I did get a suite and he conceded that asking the guest might be a better way of going about this scenario.

I think the deluxe rooms are better than the Regency Suite FWIW. The open floor plan vs the separated rooms just flows better. The only loss would be the coffee machine that is in the suite but not the deluxe room. And waking up at 4AM with jetlag means the coffee capsules were put to good use.

Interesting, because when we checked in for a recent two night, mid-week C&P stay, they asked us what type of room we'd prefer. I asked for a high floor balcony room, and they said no problem.

Definitely have noticed a huge difference with Globalist in some of my first stays post switch:
1. After staying at HB Hyatt for over a decade as a Diamond 2 to 3 times a year, and always getting the So Cal Suite/Director's Suite other than twice getting a Governor's suite, this time they made a big deal at check in about having a big surprise for us, and had put us in the Presidential Suite -- by far the nicest hotel room I've ever been in.
2. After staying at the Santa Barbara Hyatt 15 to 30 nights a year for the last 4 or 5 years, I was upgraded to one of their few suites for the second time ever.
3. HR Santa Clara seemed to go out of their way at check in to ask what type of room I preferred and put me into a high floor, quiet balcony room with no problems.
4. On the flip side HR SFO did absolutely nothing and gave us the standard type of room they always have.

It definitely feels like some properties are making an effort to wow and go above and beyond, especially for the properties I stay at a lot, and especially if it is for a shorter stay. Will be interesting to see if this is a one time thing at launch, or if it continues.
