This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-world-hyatt/1825293-world-hyatt-globalist-experiences-tier-suite-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html?icamp=woh_benefitbadges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

How does Hyatt deal with spouses (or traveling partners) in the same room with different statuses? I'm a current Explorist, but will likely hit the nights for Globalist for next year. My wife just got the credit card and so is a Discoverist. We'll have her two free nights to use, and may use them in Zurich (or maybe Milan). Since I'll be there too, would we get Globalist treatment (e.g., breakfast, and possible room upgrade), even though the free night cert is being used by a Discoverist? If we do get benefits, can we let them know in advance that a Globalist will be in the room, or do we have to deal with it at check-in?

Thanks!

IME, the best approach is for the spouse or partner with the higher status to book the room using that person's WOH number. If status of the other occupant becomes higher after booking, I'd call HY res. and see if they can sub-in the higher-status occupant's WOH #.

Normally we would always do that, but that won't work in this situation where it needs to be booked in her name to use her free credit card nights. Thus, my original question. Thanks!

I've always found Hyatt very accommodating. Communication is the key. I usually phone or email the hotel, about a week before the stay. Explain that the room is in the name of (Person A), and the other guest in the room is a Globalist and "we were wondering how to make it easy for the nice people at your hotel, to make sure we get our earned Globalist benefits, with a minimum of fuss and bother".

Example: recently stayed a week at a Hyatt Centric. My (Explorist) wife needed 3 nights (for something, I forgot), so we used my Suite Upgrade for the whole week. We had two different reservations: 2 nights for me and 3 nights for her. No problem whatsoever. (In this case, I went by the hotel in person, a few weeks before the stay, to explain what was happening).

In another case, the room was entirely my spouse's stay but we got all the benefits because I was the second inmate, um, prisoner, um, captive, um (what do they call people in a room?) .. um ... GUEST in the reservation.

Great -- thanks CC! I'll just reach about by email a week or so before the stay. Good to know it can be done!

PH Sydney booked a Certificate night in standard room got upgraded to a Opera Deluxe with direct Opera House views. This was on a Friday night and they were busy so it was a great result however I've had 24 paid nights there recently so I'm guessing my experience was not standard.

HR Houston Galleria

Just checked in around 2p today, the FD thanked me for being a globalist, and said that he has a high-floor room for me. So I asked about any upgrade? He typed a few key strokes, and said none of the suites is clean, and gave me the keys to the original room! To make matters worse, I asked him about the gift card as part of the package I booked. He said he didn't know where it is, and I should come back in an hour after he talked to his manager! No bottles of water were given.

About 5 minutes after I got to the standard room, he called me to let me know that the gift card is at the front desk. Why did he ask me to come back in an hour? Don't they know their own promotions, or process them in advance?

And yes, King Suite is available to reserve for both nights of my stay.

Two nights in the Hyatt Regency Atlanta Perimeter Villa Christina spanning a Saturday and Sunday night. Last night was busy with several big parties, which usually hurts chances of upgrade. But this time was upgraded to a Villa Suite. Really nice corner room with balcony. Big tub if you're into that.

Four nights at The Confidante Miami Beach. Booked cheapest room - no higher tier rooms or entry-level suites upon arrival. With a little prodding, got the Penthouse Suite. Extremely pleased, needless to say.

I had several stays at various properties and was not once upgraded to a suite. This included stays at GH Berlin ('upgrade' to view room), PH Hamburg (club room), Andaz Tokyo (no upgrade), where in all cases better rooms and suites showed available on the Hyatt App. I don't like to beg, so no idea what would have happened. This is one area where WoH could actually have improved things, but it doesn't seem to be working.
