This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-world-hyatt/1825293-world-hyatt-globalist-experiences-tier-suite-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html?icamp=woh_benefitbadges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

This isn't a matter of entitlement; it's a matter of where to spend our dollars.

I get that Hyatt decided to cut back on so many things that cost properties actual dollars, such as the Diamond amenity.

Then they structure the remaining benefits so they are not guaranteed. So even thought they tout an upgrade to suites as part of the "new improved" program (I grant it's new), you can end up in a standard room despite plenty of suites going empty for the night -- even if you are willing to give up a DSU! At the very, very least, they should have required properties to honor DSU's for any suite.

In the end, we each have to decide for ourselves whether Hyatt is still better than the competition. For me, it sometimes is now. But before WOH, it almost always was.

If B exists this is not even a question.

I would rate A's chances at the suite at about the same as winning the lottery, regardless of whether or not B-G have made any reservations.

That's a bit much.... you expect a property to take every suite type out if inventory, for upto 7 nights, for a DSU/TSU they get no compensation for....

Show me a single program that does that?

And for the suite upgrade at checkin, even under the old program it was hard to get the best available room assigned. The current program in theory is better, but it certainly isn't any worse. It's just harder to qualify.

The real question is what the hotel does when there is no Glob B.
You seem to be assuming that the hotel preblocks the suite for B. Otherwise, the rule would seem to be that A should get the suite if A arrives at the hotel before B and the suite is clean and ready when A arrives.

That would have been my follow-up question.

There are lots of other scenarios. Hard to make everyone happy.

Of course they get compensated. They get bookings by being part of the WoH program which they may otherwise not have received.

If they want to be in the program and enjoy the benefits, they need to play by the rules.

No, I don't expect them to not be compensated. I expect Hyatt to compensate them just like they compensate properties for "free" nights".

It was Hyatt's choice to come up with this boondoggle and tout it as an improvement. They need to follow through if they want top tiers to spend 65 or 70 nights at their properties.

Even if it were better in theory, which I disagree with, I was turned down for using a DSU at a property that has plenty of suites available. They even reclassified some suites as non-DSU because they have a better view but are otherwise identical.

If they want to gut their program, fine. It's there business. But they shouldn't be trying to pretend it's a huge improvement. It's not. Most of the new benefits, such as parking, are not guaranteed. There's free water, but I've never stayed in a Hyatt that didn't have free water.

The ONE thing that could have been a saving grace was knowing that top tier would get into a suite so long as they were physically available.

Many properties take a much narrower view and only see the cost side of the equation.

And Hyatt won't enforce its rules against the properties, which leads more and more to take this approach.

If they plan to reduce the number of diamonds by increasing qualification threshold this will make sense but only next year once they shrink the pool.
For now its too many dia for same suites so i wouldn't expect too much.

Checked into the Hyatt Regency Boston for a four-night stay and had been proactively upgraded into an executive suite.

True, lots of ex-Diamonds wrapping it up, but even where some properties have suites they are not releasing them despite advertising to the contrary.

Will be staying at the Andaz liverpool in a few weeks will see how they respond to this. Any bets that they don't allocate a suite to me?

I have a reservation next week at a HR and the hotel sent me an email in advance of my stay welcoming me and providing some background information. I replied to the email and asked about their opinion on WoH and Globalists getting upgraded to a suite if available at check in.

I know that each hotel may vary but its interesting to get this reply:
As for the suite upgrades for Globalists, they are based on availability on the day of arrival. For us, this will be for our Executive Suites primarily, but we can also use our Studio Suites and Conference Suites depending on our occupancy and what hasn’t already been reserved in advance. You do still have four suite upgrades a year if you want to upgrade in advance of your arrival.

Overall, you should just see yourself getting upgraded more often when you stay.

Now isn't that a nice and friendly explanation. Give it a chance people and report in on your experiences. I'm optimistic, even if I don't get upgraded next week when I check-in.

So, if I see a standard suite available for the dates I'm checking in, and it isn't given to me proactively, I should be able to just ask and get it?

I wonder how well that will work out in practice.
