This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyat...-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-term...dges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

Yes, it's true that I had access to the RC anyway, but the room did seem to be better than the one the wife and I had on her company outing.

The Lake Tahoe and mountain view from our 11th floor room was vastly superior to our last room, which was on the lower floor (believe it was 5th or 6th floor)

GH DFW - No Luck

Booked a standard 2 Queen room and the only upgrade was to a King bed. No upgrade or even an explanation of benefits. Suites were open on a very slow night at the hotel, but no upgrade offered or given when I asked.

This kind of thing, although it was certainly both expected and predicted, is really souring me even more on the World of Hurt program.

Sweet-talking the front desk?

From reading Flyertalk, we can conclude that receiving earned benefits is a three-step process:

1. Guest is assigned to a crappy room
2. Guest sweet-talks the front desk
3. Guest receives a better room or suite

In the WOH terms and conditions, it's easy to find Step 3 (where top tier guests get a better room or suite). But where can we find the official rules for Step 2? What is the proper procedure to kiss up to the front desk, in order to receive earned benefits?

GH DFW

Had two rooms which were doubles on cash rates. No upgrades offered other than runway views high which I usually get anyway when I stay there regardless of cash, p+c, or points only stays.

HR Maui Resort

Had three night stay here. Had King which I upgraded to Lahaina suite with points (made last year and couldn't use DSU). Was upgraded to Deluxe Ocean Suite which we enjoyed. Had a 2nd room on points only which they upgraded to a deluxe oceanfront view King. Resort fees and parking waived for being Globalist. Felt well treated as Globalist.

Second stay at the Olive 8 in the WoH program. Booked a regular King and that's exactly what I got. I had to inquire about the possibility of an upgrade, and after some awkward haggling, got a Corner King room. Not feeling this crap at all.

Had a one-night stay at the Olive 8 this month and was pro-actively prebooked into a Luxury King Suite. (shrug)

So far for me:
after 14 stays, 16 nights this year

As a Globalist
(4 Stays 6 nights since March 1)
Hyatt Regency Vancouver - no upgrade
Grand Hyatt Seattle - upgraded to corner suite
Olive 8 - no upgrade
Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Gainey Ranch - no upgrade

Summary - no difference to how the program worked before.

As expected. Useless benefit. I get suites about as often as I used to without using certificate.

1. Hyatt Centric Waikiki - Upgraded to Mountain-facing Suite without asking
2. Hyatt Centric Waikiki - Upgraded to Mountain-facing Suite without asking
3. HR Waikiki - Upgraded to Ocean-facing room on a high-floor
4. Hyatt Centric Waikiki - Upgraded to Ocean-facing room on a high floor (did not ask)

I have to mention that the Hyatt Centric Waikiki employees are some of the nicest staff that I've encountered at any Hyatt. The HR Waikiki employees are also wonderful, but the Centric Waikiki staff are among the best in any hotel I've been at.

HR San Francisco Presidential Suite!

Dang.....Hyatt is making it hard for me to leave WOH.

I was disappointed at the low floor room assigned to me with mobile check-in, and proactively asked for
and received an upgrade to the Presidential Suite.

I said I would have been happy with a high floor bay view room when I first asked, but I was nice to
and talked with the FDA for a while, and he gave me the sweet upgrade.

It never hurts when you're nice with people at the FD, and not proclaim your Globalist or whatever status for all to hear.
