This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.
By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.
Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.
Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

I went ahead and renamed the headings:
Hotels that have offered Standard Suite Upgrades or Best Room to Globalists Without Prodding
Better Room Not Proactively Offered But Was Available After Prodding
Better Room Denied Even After Prodding, But Was Available on Hyatt.com
So we'll have three tiers of properties - the best ones that interpret the upgrade rules like we do and assign upgrades without any guest intervention, these that we can extract an upgrade out of, and these that wouldn't budge.
Is this clearer to most?

From last week's trip to the Washington DC area
Hyatt Centric Arlington - 1 night, March 2017 No upgrade, no suites available online
PH Washington - 4 nights, March 2017 Upgraded to Junior Suite without asking at check in.
It was my first stay at the PH Washington (but it won't be my last !). From other threads here, it seems the property routinely upgraded Diamonds to Jr Suites without requiring a DSU. Apparently they've continued that practice. Higher level suites were available online, but I was happy with the upgrade even if it wasn't to a true suite.

Hyatt Regency Columbus OH upgraded me to junior suite for 2 nights without prodding. Junior suite has a separate bedroom with door through to oversized room with living room and dining room. I'm a Glob. Stayed here before as Diamond and was never upgraded under Gold Passport.

Got an email a day ahead showing a reservation change to 2 rooms, i.e. Connecting to eachother. 2nd room was living room with balcony and 2nd bathroom. Great room on 9th of 10 floor facing harbour.

The larger executive suite was available, and I asked at check-in if they had a suite for me, but it not offered (and I didn't expect it to be).
I can't imagine the suites are sold on a mid-week in March, so I'm assuming a few other Globs checked in before me and picked up the suite.

Checked into HR Tokyo last night. I have been checking every few days since 3/1/17 to try to apply DSU with no success and they are listed as sold out when I last checked. Boy was I shocked when they told be I was upgraded to a regency suite for a 4 night stay!! Bonus was that I did not have to use a DSU.
Also stayed at HR Ohare 3/24 and was given regency suite when requested.

My SO and I thought at first that he was trying some sort of upsell, but it turns out this was just a slightly clumsy way to announce a free Glob upgrade.

The difference between rack rates is about US$1000, so I doubt anyone is charged that. I think this is a (clumsy) way to show what a great upgrade they're giving you, similar to, say, the IC Tahiti telling you they put you in an OWB that's 5 categories about what you booked.
