Club Lounge Awards are just Club Lounge Access while booked in regular rooms. They have nothing to do with Club rooms.
borrowed from post 1.From T&C's (link)
1. Receiving Explorist Club Lounge Access Awards. Upon receiving or re-qualifying for Explorist status, Explorists will receive four (4) complimentary awards redeemable for Club lounge access (“Explorist Club Lounge Access Awards”). For Members who have received Explorist status for a multi-year term, additional Explorist Club Lounge Access Awards will not be awarded each Calendar Year upon elite status renewal (unless the Member otherwise re-achieves Explorist status by satisfying the Tier-Qualifying Night or Base Point accrual requirement). In no event will a Member receive more than four (4) Explorist Club Lounge Access Awards on the Effective Date of these Terms. If, while you have an elite status higher than Explorist, you complete activity that satisfies the requirements to earn Explorist status, you will not receive Explorist Club Lounge Access Awards unless and until you are placed into the Explorist tier for the Calendar Year immediately following such qualifying activity.
2. Redeeming Explorist Club Lounge Access Awards. Explorist Club Lounge Access Awards are valid for one (1) year from the date of issuance and must be redeemed in connection with reservations with a checkout date before the expiration of the Explorist Club Lounge Access Award. Explorist Club Lounge Access Awards can be tracked through the “My Awards” section of the Member’s account. A Member must redeem an Explorist Club Lounge Access Award when making the underlying reservation. Explorist Club Lounge Access Awards are redeemable only at participating Hyatt hotels and resorts that have a Club lounge and are not valid at Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Hyatt Zilara, Hyatt Ziva, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts, or M life Resorts. Explorist Club Lounge Access Awards are valid on nights for which the Member has paid an Eligible Rate or has redeemed points for a standard-room Free Night Award, Suite Free Night Award, or a Points + Cash Award, up to a maximum of seven (7) consecutive nights. Not valid in connection with any Free Night Award other than those identified above, including, without limitation, Hyatt Credit Card premium and anniversary Free Night Awards, 5-brand Free Night Awards, Category 1-4 Free Night Awards (defined below) or any other promotional Free Night Award. Breakfast will not be provided to a Member at participating hotels or resorts without an accessible Club lounge. Club lounge access is subject to availability and space limitations. Explorist Club Lounge Access Awards are not redeemable in connection with hotels or resorts that have not yet opened when the Member makes his/her reservation, even if reservations for such hotel or resort are otherwise being accepted.

But of course, Explorists are supposed to get the "best available room" other than suites and rooms with club access. There's not a lot of data on how well that works. I know a couple of properties that I would expect to honor it and I also know a couple of properties that never even bothered to honor it even when I was Diamond.

Based on WoH T&C, that statement may be true. In practice, some Hyatt properties with clubs or lounges will place Explorists (who are using Club access certs) in rooms on Club Floors in order to grant club access. That scenario has happened to me a couple of times. I have not yet experienced a Hyatt with lounges placing me on a non-Club floor when using an Explorist upgrade cert for club/lounge access. If anyone has used an Explorist Club upgrade cert while booking a standard room, and has not been placed on a Club Floor, it would be great to know which properties do this. Because of the way the rules are written, Hyatt properties could scale up or back the way they handle this. YMMV

HR Tokyo 3 nights on cash and points.
HR TST in Hong Kong 2 nights on points.
GH Hongkong 2 nights on cash and points.
and
GH Bali 4 nights on cash and points..
I ended up cancelling GH Hong Kong, but all other four stays were simply that. Club access and no upgrade to club rooms.

I you want a room category above the base room, you can surely book it and still apply a club access award.
The club access award most certainly does not guarantee access to a "club" room. At many properties there is little difference between a standard room and a club room other than the club access.

It is good to get an idea about which properties have provided better Explorist club upgrade experiences, and which properties may not offer as much.

Thanks for information on properties which do not upgrade Explorists to club floors when they apply club access upgrade awards. For stays at Grand Hyatt Erawan BKK and Grand Hyatt Buckhead (Atlanta), I was given a room on a Club Floor with club/lounge access when a standard room was booked.

At many Hyatts, there is no difference between a club room and a regular room. But at some - e.g., GH Singapore, there is a substantial difference. And at these, the Club award guarantees nothing beyond club access.
Having status in other programs which provides guaranteed lounge access, the club awards have basically zero value to me (as does Explorist in general). To the extent I stay at any Hyatts in 2018, it will be very property specific and have nothing to do with Explorist.

I cannot confirm if providing Club Floor rooms at the referenced properties is a consistent practice. The hotels' willingness to provide a club room which could otherwise be sold at a premium was generous if the WoH T&C did not require that. WoH already states that Explorist upgrades should be to the best "available" rooms, excluding suites and club rooms. Perhaps with more data points, we could learn more about what might be possible or likely in terms of club upgrade awards.

That's standard Hyatt policy (Grand Hyatt Tokyo is another) A list of hotels that DO upgrade Explorists using Club Access rewards to Club Rooms regardless is IMHO more valuable. Assume they don't until proven otherwise.

Used my club access cert on a recent stay at the Hyatt Lake Tahoe. I paid a casino rate which earns points & EQN so I gather means the rate is eligible for explorist perks.

At most properties I agree. But there are some where the club rooms are better. At GH Singapore for example, they're basically suites. (Which makes the club room points upgrade an excellent deal.)
