For an upcoming 8-night stay, my wife will join me for the final 2 nights. Therefore, I''m interested in using a TSU for those final 2 nights. I'd also use the TSU for anywhere from 2 to 7 nights. I especially do _NOT_ want to use 2 TSUs for 8 nights (as that would be a complete waste of the second TSU). I work too hard for TSUs to use them for a one-night stay as a solo traveler. I try to use TSUs only for occasions when my spouse travels with me.

Hyatt Concierge says that I "MUST" use the TSU for 8 nights (thus, use 2 TSUs), or none ... stating that the TSU MUST be used for the ENTIRE stay.

However, in the actual terms and conditions, we find this:

The terms require that the suite is AVAILABLE during the entire stay. The terms do NOT require that you MUST upgrade for your entire stay.

Has anyone had any experience with getting a suite upgrade for part of a stay? In this case, the suite upgrade is available for all 8 nights, but I only want 7 nights. AFAICT, my request qualifies under the written terms.

Plan B: What if I stay one night, then call in and state that I'd like to use a TSU for the remainder (7 nights) of the stay?

Why not make two reservations? One for 1-2 nights and the other for 6-7 nights and apply the tsu to the second stay?

I would say this is probably the best course of action. However, the OP may find that the per-night rates change (likely higher, of course).

Hyatt Terms and Conditions specifically address that tactic. If you have consecutive reservations, it's considered one big reservation.

The issue is that the Terms & Conditions say the suite upgrade must be "available" for your entire stay. But there's no wording to indicate that you must BOOK the upgrade for the entire length of your stay.

Bottom line: I'm gonna end up using a TSU, exactly as I wish. (In other words, they can't force me to burn a TSU for just one night). The only question is whether I'll do it before arrival, or after staying 1 night. It's no big deal. I just wondered if anyone else was forced to use two TSUs when you only wanted to use one.

Don't know if this would help...with whichever location you will be - but I see you are SPG Plat also...is there a Marriott/SPG nearby?
That wouldn't be so inconvenient to stay the 1st night - and then make your Hyatt res 7 nights?

You're right, that's a perfectly do-able option! Thanks!

FWIW, I ended up deciding to stay the first night, then phone in and apply the TSU for the remaining 7 nights. Already phoned the hotel and told them I was gonna do that, and they're already holding a suite for me.

I'm trying to use a Suite Upgrade Award at a property where the standard suite is available online for new bookings on my dates. However, the phone agents are telling me that the standard suite is currently not available for a Suite Upgrade Award. Is this normal?

I thought suite upgrades could be confirmed as long as the suite is bookable online. Is that not the case?

HUCA. This is not normal. I have been able to book any standard suite using a TSU if it appears online

Did you ask your concierge? I would expect them to be more knowledgable than the phone agent

As another easy workaround, it's easy to do the following:
- Make a single reservation for nights 2-8.
- Call/Tweet to have TSU applied
- Make another points booking for night 1

I guarantee you won't have any issues with those steps.

Honestly though, even if you had two separate reservations (1 for night 1, 1 for nights 2-8), if you call/tweet Hyatt and pass the confirmation for just the second reservation I am highly confident that the TSU will apply properly.

In almost all cases if you can break the reservation agents job down into smaller individual steps that they are able to do, you'll have a much higher success rate.
Sure the agent should know how the system works and how to make it work for you. But their first thing they try is going to be trying to upgrade the single reservation of 8 nights, and you can't use just one TSU for that (system is hard coded that way). And just spouting off T&C doesn't help you or them - they can't do what their system won't let them do.

1) You should be able to have concierge/twitter remove day #1 from the reservation, then apply the TSU. Once it's applied, you can make a new reservation for day #1 .
It's true you'll only get one stay credit, but realistically the hotel has a high chance of proactively upgrading you the first day anyway

2) If you stay the night and the standard suite is still available... you're entitled to it for free. Not all properties follow it, but that's what the "complimentary upgrade up to and including standard suites" is supposed to mean.
Once the stay starts though, I don't think that Hyatt central is going to be able to apply the TSU, since you're already checked in. At this point everything is in the hands of the hotel front desk.

The "Grand Suite Twin" at GH Taipei. The phone agents are telling me that only the "Grand Suite King" is available for upgrade awards, not the "Grand Suite Twin". This applies on any date across the board, even though the "Grand Suite Twin" is also classified as a standard suite and has the same room size and cost.

It sounds like this standard suite is categorically excluded from suite upgrade awards, regardless of availability... I thought this was not permitted? What is the meaning of "standard suite" if the room cannot be booked through suite upgrades?

Good to know. I am still Explorist so don't have a concierge yet (am using the suite awards given at 50 nights).

Good question. But I will note that there are also several suites classified as "premium" per the room description that do not qualify for a premium suite points redemption.

Just one example: PH Tokyo, where the Presidential Suite is described per screenshot.
Actual premium suite redemption is for Governors suite.

Have the mechanics of how the Tier Suite Upgrades are applied changed?

About a month ago, I used one at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa in Austin,TX and the reservation was immediately updated to show a Junior Suite. I did this by calling.

In the past week, I asked my concierge to apply a TSU to two reservations. She says they are applied even though the room types haven't changed to show a suite.

Has anyone seen this before and it worked?

Are they points or cash reservations? Points reservations won’t show the upgraded room, but cash ones will
