I was able to apply an upgrade to a points stay at an all-inclusive through Twitter. It took about 5 hours to confirm because apparently the hotel was not aware that suite upgrades could now be used on all points stays. I haven't received a reservation change e-mail and the change isn't reflected in my account yet so I will likely follow up this evening.

Got another one for a short stay at Seattle Olive 8. Waiting on the hotel to okay it.
The gist of how I asked the rep was that as soon as you use a SU while calling GP you should get 1 email saying that your reservation was changed fairly quickly. It should show the new room and note that you are using a suite upgrade. Then when the hotel gets it they adjust your rate BACK to the the base cost and you should get another one.

So I called for a second one and I think I got it, but my account shows that I still have three DSUs when I should have two. Not complaining, of course. But I assume it'll catch up in a day or so.

I questioned my rep on this. Apparently it's when the hotel actually removes the room from their system as being confirmed/booked so you just wait. Best to call the property if you're at this point.

Mine were returned about 7 hours later. Still have the confirmation that shows $55 with no points taken out and upgrade applied. Will see if the hotel works it out or have them work it out at check in if there is still an issue.

This incident happened pre-change over, but I had some weird interactions in early January with regards to using DSU.
Previously, using DSUs were a breeze via twitter direct message. Then, I got an agent who basically just changed my reservation to a suite rack rate, and didn't even confirm with me if I wanted to use a DSU when I was just asking about its availability. This is the exchange (I redacted some info for privacy):
Me: Is a DSU available for reservation (Hyatt Regency SF)?
Agent: It will be cost 199 USD, should I book for you ?
Me: No. I already have a reservation, and am enquiring if there's diamond suite upgrade availability.
Agent: It´s our pleasure to confirm your Diamond Suite upgrade for 179,10 USD per night plus Tax.
Me: Hi, I do not want to PAY for a diamond suite upgrade. I want to use one of SUITE UPGRADE AWARDS
Agent: Hi, that´s your daily rate. For using the Diamond Suite award you need a eligible rate.
I did book an eligible rate (Standard Rate), and it was 149USD . So the agent somehow changed my daily rate on it and booked me into a suite at the daily rate. Frustrated with that particular agent, I decided to try emailing instead, and that's when the madness got even crazier.
I had an agent change the now 299USD suite booking into two rooms (I was the only guest) and add guests. It took a lot back-and-forth before I finally got what I wanted (FT Hyatt Concierge finally fixed it).
This leads me to believe that they might have hired quite a lot of new agents.
Fun times ahead.

Was able to use a DSU on an award stay at Andaz Amsterdam. Reservation still shows regular room, although the Hyatt twitter team confirmed the suite upgrade (after making it on the phone)

I still have 3 months before my stay so it's not urgent. I'll give them a couple of days before I call back and ask for some sort of email confirmation that I can show the hotel. We don't want to get to Europe and have to be fighting with a hotel about what should be a confirmed suite upgrade and having the 3 of us stay in a regular king room.

Just looked at my future stays....
Noticed that WOH agent attached another person's future booking with DSU under my WOH account....Guess I got 4 DSU's plus 1!
I called the individual attached to the reservation to let them know of the mix-up. The reservation gave me their name, home address, phone number, and email.
That person should be glad that I am not shady.....

I have a previously booked Maui all points reward stay of two weeks for many months from now. I called (was traveling so not online) and asked if my new DSUs were loaded and I was told they were. I successfully had the agent apply two DSUs to my reservation and confirmed upgrade. So far so good.

Used the DSUs this morning on two stays, both booked with an advance purchase rate. The room type changed to suite, but no certs have been taken out yet, and the rate changed (increased) on one of the reservations.
After a few calls this is what I gathered from three reps telling me the same thing: there are now two separate departments for suite upgrade processes under WOH. The phone agent will check for availability and make any changes necessary to basically grab the room, including rate changes if need be. But then another department will manually go in and confirm, override rates if applicable (to honor original booking rate), pull the cert, and then send out a confirmation email.
This usually takes less than 2 hours per the agents, which is why their script says "we will email you within 2 hours" but I guess they are backed up since it's the first day and everyone's DSUs just got loaded.
I feel like they definitely got a bunch of new agents, so I guess only time will tell if this is true, and what the new "process" is, if there really is one.
