Some advice for non-Colombian nationals: The VAT (called IVA in Spanish) will be deducted from your hotel bill ONLY if you book a rate package that includes a meal or some other added-value item.

IVA will be charged by this hotel on room-only or Points + Cash rates. In many instances it is worth booking the "Bed and Breakfast" rate to save the IVA.

Many other hotels in Colombia include breakfast automatically in order to reflect this package-deal requirement.

Hyatt Regency Cartagena - REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

https://cartagena.regency.hyatt.com

"Now accepting reservations for stays from March 1, 2017 and beyond."

However searching for dates gives an error.

The hotel already appears in the Category 2 list.

It's been under construction forever.

Looking forward to Hyatt finally having some properties in Colombia. (But there's going to be a huge glut in Cartagena hotel rooms - not to mention massive traffic issues in Bocagrande - with all the new properties opening there.)

How is this hotel's location relative to where tourists would want to be?

It's in bocagrande. The touristic center of Cartagena is the walled city, which is about a mile away (about a $2 taxi ride; typically too hot to walk). Bocagrande is where the Colombian tourists from Bogota and Medellin stay. Think Miami Beach high rise condos but with a really crappy beach.

I personally like staying in bocagrande, but a first time visitor may be happier inside the walls.

Why....? It can be very useful to have a specific thread for a property so you don't have to wade through post for other properties you have no interest in. And as soon as a property opens it will get its dedicated thread anyway.

Rates are now showing, 190USD-200usd.

Interestingly, Points+Cash (4000 +55usd) is available online, but Points only is not.

Any updates on this property? Looks like a steal for a Cat 2.

Is this hotel open yet? Tried looking at Google Street View and the streetscape looks pretty bleak around there.

FYI, this hotel is now open according to a Hyatt rep. It opened December 7th. Not sure why thread title says March.

Fine with me as P+C is a MUCH MUCH better deal.

Update: I was planning to book as an award with points but Hyatt is running a free night promo (3 night minimum required). So I just went ahead and paid the cash rate for an ocean view king at $107 per night. Ended up about $380 for 3 nights including taxes. Not bad.
