Some advice for non-Colombian nationals: The VAT (called IVA in Spanish) will be deducted from your hotel bill ONLY if you book a rate package that includes a meal or some other added-value item.

IVA will be charged by this hotel on room-only or Points + Cash rates. In many instances it is worth booking the "Bed and Breakfast" rate to save the IVA.

Many other hotels in Colombia include breakfast automatically in order to reflect this package-deal requirement.

TIP: As a foreigner in Colombia you are not supposed to pay the 16% IVA in hotel rooms.

I created the thread some time ago and that was the original date, don't know how to modify it.

Interestingly, Points+Cash (4000 +55usd) is available online, but Points only is not.
For my dates in April, Points-only is available, while P+C is not. It's irritating.

Try looking day by day to see if P+C is available on at least one night. If it is, take it. Then get the other nights on points.

Thanks for the tip. It didn't work out in my case, but it's a nice trick to have available.

Great, thanks for the heads up Terminator8. They've got them on my dates.

I booked this property for 8 nights in early March. Will post some thoughts upon my return but early reviews appear to be extremely favorable.

I've got 2 weeks booked in March as well. Waiting for 1 March to apply DSUs before confirming the trip.(and fingers crossed for a promo)

Has anybody used DSUs here yet?

Interested to hear the DSU and breakfast situation as well. Which room does a DSU book into? Is breakfast only in the lounge, or do Globalists have the option of eating it in the restaurant as well? Any answers from those who have stayed will be helpful for those of us considering staying.

FYI, all my nights were booked on points and cash, 4,000 points + $55 cash, which is a silly good deal.

Just applied DSUs into a Junior Suite King on C+P. Had a good laugh with agent as she couldn't manage to spit out "World of Hyatt" or Globalist either.

Some excellent early reviews so looking forward to this one. A no-tax, Category 2 in a great city on the Caribbean. ^

Interesting, I frequently travel to Colombia (although often stay in an apartment), how does one avoid the IVA when using a hotel? ...merely show one's passport? Thx

VAT was raised to 19% and not everybody is eligible to avoid the tax. Will see what happens when I am there in a couple weeks.
