Member Discount Rate and FHR / Virtuoso

Can FHR or Vituoso agents use member discount rates? Upcoming stay at the Andaz Maui and Member Discount rate is $100 less than the standard rate and no other discount codes seem to apply and non points or cash / points.

With very limited exceptions, FHR and Virtuoso require you to pay the standard rate. If you can get $100 off don't expect to get additional benefits thrown in.

Generally, FHR/Virtuoso rates are set.

Not sure if you are a diamond or how long your stay is. If we have a 3+ night stay, and there is a virtuoso rate more expensive than other options (adv purchase from hyatt or points plus cash) then we usually book one night virtuoso, and the rest on points plus cash or the cheapest paid rate. And then upgrade the entire reservation with one DSU. So we still get the $100 credit at whatever property it is, along with all the other diamond amenities.

Don't Diamonds already get most of the Virtuoso benfeits. Is the extra benefit worth the higher rate over a AAA rate?

Often the $100 F&B benefit as well as guaranteed early check-in may be worth it for some people.

The Virtuoso rate is a better deal in many cases. For an upcoming stay, I could pay "Member Rate" and get Diamond benefits, or pay $30 more and get Virtuoso benefits. Let's do the math.

For $60 more (two nights), I get breakfast in the restaurant (instead of the club), plus $100 dining credit during the stay.

Verdict: Virtuoso Rate is worthwhile in this case.

It can be. Some properties had FHR rates with included F&B credit, spa use benefits, car service benefits, (as above) better breakfast benefit), different cancellation terms that in some mix could make the Amex FHR rate a better value than the AAA rate.

I found Hyatt Diamond on Amex FHR to be rather useful to me at some properties in the past.

FHR amenities require that you pay the FHR rate (and use an AmEx card in your own name, but not necessarily the Plat/Centurion card). PTS/CTS agents can book other rates in the same hotels, including often a general "corporate" rate and sometimes an AmEx special rate that can be lower than the FHR rates.

Don't assume that FHR rates are necessarily higher than what is available on the hotel's website.

Member rates are only available if booked directly through Hyatt; they set them up specifically to cut out the agent, whether OTA or otherwise.
