Resort Fee

This was a great review. I find resort fees irritating at best but I find a percentage to be obscene. I have reservations for February at Mayakoba and was shocked when the fee came up and added several hundred dollars to a three night stay.

The rules request that you at least post something of a summary here (or the whole post)....

Resort fee is nearly $800 per night if staying in the $5300/night presidential suite! Not sure what makes the resort fee worth 20 times more than what is charged for the most basic room in the hotel. Might as well just charge $6k for the room and have the resort fee fixed.

First time saw a hotel charging in this way, Hyatt or any other company!

I think the Papagayo property also charges resort fees based on rates.... at 10% of the rate.

I wouldn't be surprised if they will find a way around that.

They will call it a "service charge" like all of the Asian hotels do.

$186/n on booking.com for Jan, which Hyatt BRG matches painlessly.

you are, of course, very likely right. assuming the Globalist resort resort-fee-waiver is a cost of affilliation with Hyatt rather than a reimbursement from Hyatt Corp to the hotel.

Have a 3 night stay in a beach suite in couple weeks. Found the latest review on TA about 2 water bugs being found in the room a bit concerning, hopefully not the case otherwise.
