Well this is good news. I hated that Hyatt didn't have any hotels on the beach. The Hyatt Centric doesn't sit right on the beach so this will be a great addition. My SO loves Miami so we can definitely add this place as a future stop.

Glad to see this addition! Great spot. I wonder what category it will be.

Hyatt Miami Beach - Unbound collection: The Thompson Miami Beach

Just read this article this morning: Hyatt Hotels to take over the Thompson Miami Beach, and rebrand it to "The Confidante"

http://www.usatoday.com/story/travel...each/82173720/

Here their website:

But great to finally see a true beachfront hotel/resort in Florida by Hyatt

Miami Herald article here:

The hotel complex at 4041 Collins Ave., comprising three towers dating to 1940, 1955 and 2007, has changed hands several times. It opened as the Lord Tarleton Hotel on Collins Avenue in 1940, then reopened as the Crown Hotel in 1955 and finally was the Crown at Miami Beach apartments before a takeover by Thompson Hotels that included a $82 million renovation to turn apartments into hotel rooms.

Does anyone know anything about when The Confidante Miami will open?

I've been looking for information on this, can't seem to find any. I certainly don't want to stay in Hyatt Centric lol. I also don't want to be forced to give Marriott my money due to the impending destruction of SPG. I'm trying to figured out if i should just sleep in my rental car if The Confidante doesnt open this year...Just kidden, but really, does anyone know?

The deal should close this month, so I can imagine it'll run under the Hyatt flag starting May.?

Hopefully you're right. Last time i was in Miami, i took a look at Hyatt Centric and was disappointed. I could see Hyatt Regency from my room at the JW Marquis. No way im going there either.

One article said, that it will close for renovation and reopen in spring 2018.

Between the JW, HR and Centric, I would choose the Centric, was very disappointed by both HR and JW.

What...Are we talking about the same JW? Im talking about the JW Marriott Marquis Miami. The one with the Beaux Hotel on top of it not the regular ol' JW that's also close by. I have to agree that Hyatt Regency is a place that i never want to catch myself in.

Stayed at the HC last October, going back again in mid-May. Great hotel and location. Agree, the rooms are a bit small. other than that, anytime again back to the centric, especially since room rates have dropped from 400$+ for the first weeks after opening down to an affordable 180-250$.
