Earn miles + points?

I can't seem to find an answer for this anywhere. I even went through GP terms and conditions.

does anybody know if earnings are set for miles instead of points, whether the 500/1,000 bonus points are in addition to that? Or is it either/or?

Thanks as always.

I'm assuming that you are referring to the 500/1000 points Diamond welcome amenity - yes you are entitled to it but many agents don't know how to process that (a new entry needs to be created).

AFAIK you can't set earnings to miles in advance (as a default) - can only be done at checkin.

Yeah, i saw that you can't set the earnings on the website.

If the amenity points are in addition to that, then it's probably more useful to get 500 UA or AA miles at 1 night Hyatt Place stays that are around $100.

100 x 6.5 = 650 GP points or 500 miles. Even better would be during C+P at those hotels where it's about $55 so... 55 x 6.5 = ~358 GP points vs. 500 miles.

Am I correct in using this logic?

I think your logic is sound. For HP type properties, I would think that this type of transaction (giving airline miles plus the Diamond amenity points) would be beyond their training. It's ok to just let it post as points then follow up with CS to convert the stay itself to miles since that conversion can be done at anytime whereas the reverse converting a posted stay in miles to points must be done pretty quickly before the accounts are swept for transfer to the airlines.

I've done so myself during periods where airline miles promos are running (usually summer) in the past where the miles earned are doubled or tripled. No guarantee that it will happen again though - didn't happen in 2015.

I'll try to do that. Anytime I have a 1 night stay at <$100, I'll Hyatt CS after the stay to have the points converted to miles.
