I don't follow this board closely, but I did actually want to make a Hyatt reservation yesterday when I ran into this maintenance. I'm curious: does anyone know what exactly they are doing? I've worked on a few major data center moves and upgrades over the years with total client downtime measured in seconds and minutes, not hours and days. A 72-hour outage would be seen as beyond catastrophic. What happened, or is happening here? And entire build of a data center, down the the metal, in place....with no functioning alternate site?

It's no catastrophe for me...Hyatt is going to be my 2nd program in 2016, so I just booked a Marriott instead. But if I were one of the hotels I wouldn't be real happy about this...

I agree with you. Down for 3 days seems like a major issue for any company and IT group. I don't know what's so hard about doing all your work in the background to an alternate site and then migrate in the changes after it's tweeked and working.

This does seem completely bush league, and it really hasn't inspired much further confidence in Hyatt on my part.

According to manager I talked to they are doing a TOTAL revamp of the system. She also said points for my stay that ended yesterday would probably not post until the new year.

So the only part that is down is points reservations.. No issues with revenues reservations. So confused by some of these posts.

To my knowledge, there's no way to link up a Gold Passport number to a reservation, so that's additional work that you'll need to do later.

It doesn't matter that they are doing a total revamp of their system - taking a system down for such a long time is incredibly amateurish.

Your GP# should be shown on the last page of the reservation flow. Under "Additional information" -> "Hyatt Gold Passport Number". I made a reservation earlier this week and the confirmation e-mail had my # and status reflected correctly. No issues at all.

The IT department and CIO at Hyatt need to be replaced. No modern company takes their website down for 4 days for maintenance. Even though I'm diamond, Hyatt now becomes my 4th program.

They lost all of my revenue bookings for the next three weeks.

Apparently Hyatt is the only company in the world where you can take a system down for so long and not lose your job. At most companies, even the mere suggestion of such of thing would get you on the fast track to unemployment.

Oh, and it's the 19th now and still not up.

No kidding. At my company, one time the server was down for an hour and it got escalated all the way to the Sr. VP. Never seen anything like this in any company before. Who's in charge of Hyatt IT? What a bunch of bozos.

Same people from the healthcare.gov? Even if it costed Hyatt a $billion, it ain't the tax payers

The entire website - and availability to book any reservation - has been down at times during this outage, which is likely what sparked those posts.

People are kind of overreacting here. I care much more about the quality of my stays than access to my account info over a four day period.

While I agree that this might be an over reaction to planned system overhaul, it does speak to reliability of systems, especially with it still being down, well into a 5th day, now unplanned. Lack of reliability for their IT in one area does give one pause for concern that an IT issue might very well impact the quality of a person's stay.
