I didn't get the email. In fact, I just searched now for Hyatt and there's noting dated anywhere close to December 8th. So not everyone received the notification.

I always consider FHR, Virtuoso, relais&chateaux 5c chains. Booking though them gets you exactly what Hyatt is giving its Diamond members, free breakfast, free room upgrades, extra perks, etc...

One is a little boutique hotel in the woods, the other a gynormous lakeside resort. Hard to compare. The Prince Hakone has a much better onsen and many things to do. Hyatt Regency Hakone has much better food and a nice dog. I enjoy both.
As for other chain hotels, Palace Hakone is a dump, the Odakyu hotels (especially De Yama) are surprisingly nice, and the Fujiya Hotel is a historical treasure that's worth a visit even if you don't stay there.

Hyatt Gold Passport System Maintenance (Dec 15-18, 2015)
Phew. I hope that the world can go back to normal tomorrow when the systems come back online. Pandemonium and all the fretting can stop. Another disaster survived.

I seriously don't know what all the fuss is about. I made two separate Hyatt bookings in the last 48 hours; one to a PH where I stay all the time, the other at a HR where I've never stayed before. Both were done directly with the hotel's reservation person. In both instances they were quick and efficient and I was done in under five minutes in both cases. The PH person welcomed me back and asked if I had a particular room in mind, the HR person said that they would do everything possible to make my stay - as a Diamond member - a positive one. An anecdote perhaps, but the fact that the website was done was inconsequential.

Main reason for posting:
Will the GP site be up tomorrow? Or the day after?

- no award bookings can be made
- no DSU's can be used
- no overview of your reservations
and account information will not be current until nearly the end of the year when counters reset.....
So yes, it's a (big) pain for some, and maybe less for others.

FWIW, this Hyatt website has been down for "temporary" maintenance for three months now:
