Please tell me the points+cash for HR Hakone. The option to show points is gone. Don't tell me you will go through the master list to find the category for this one. And just because I knew something for 2 weeks doesn't mean anything. This week, some award seats open up, so, yeah, even with 2 years warning, it's still an issue.

Anyway, not sure why some Hyatt fans are so defensive.

This was an interesting one. Just made a booking for a BRG and when booking it slotted my status as Platinum (I matched from Marriott Plat during the twitter thing).

I asked the person on the phone about it and told me just to call back on the 18th since they have basically no access to the system and so she had no way to investigate.

Thankfully the stay isn't until March and I need to call back anyway to apply a DSU but still rather odd.

Unless there's another way, but see, it's inconvenient to me already.
What's the point of looking it up now when you can't book it anyway?

It's a Cat 6. So 12500 points and about 17800 yen per night.

We can still book cash rate. I just want to know if booking cash is better than dealing with the cash and point. Or just go to another chain all together. The point is it affects some people and it annoys some people.

Anybody else going through withdrawal right now??

Was hoping to run some potential dates through the system, but I can't even get the regular reservations website to work properly. I wonder how much biz Hyatt is losing due to mediocre IT.

What other chain are you going to go to in Hakone? Prince?

I agree with the above.. how could their IT systems be so bad? The layperson might think a few days is not too bad... but in the IT world, 4 days is ridiculous.
I just took a class on ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Certification - basically a 101 for up-and-coming IT managers/designers... Whoever is in charge of Hyatt IT obviously doesn't have this certification.

Hyatt - you hiring?

If you're desperate to check award availability during maintenance period, use the mobile website. Can't book it though.

Yes it's quite easy but will take a tiny bit of work. You have to first determine the category of the hotel.
Here's a link to the screen for that - http://www.hyatt.com/gp/en/awards/hy...jsp?category=4

Then you look up points cost for that category:
http://www.hyatt.com/gp/en/awards/pointspluscash.jsp

The only inconvenience though is that you have no way of knowing if that hotel has P+C availability.

I only hope that this major system change will improve the website going forward and eliminate the constant and random times when it's not working (then we can get rid of that website sticky). I do agree that Hyatt IT is abysmal overall - my theory is that the IT dept must be run by a Pritzker family member or they would have been fired long ago.

By the way how does Prince compare to HR Hakone?

I saw the hotel from the ferry and although I've never stayed at any of their properties I've got a Prince Club membership card.

Not everyone knows their travel plans far in advance. Moreover, if one is worried about rates or availability, it's usually a good idea to make the booking and confirm the terms, such as use of DSUs, as early as possible.

An airline's 24 hour hold (for AA) or free cancel period (for other USA carriers) doesn't come close to covering December 15-18, assuming that the Hyatt system comes back to life as expected sometime on the 18th. Plus, not everyone is based in the USA.

Finally, if someone isn't reading FT regularly, they wouldn't know about the planned system outage. IIRC the notification of anticipated maintenance didn't appear on the Hyatt website until a day or two before the 15th when the long red box started to appear at the top of the page.

News alert: There are hotels that don't belong to any chain. Some of them are extremely nice, better than any chain properties in many locations.

While this is true, Hyatt sent out the maintenance email on the 8th I believe. I can't find the email now, but it's posted up thread that they sent it out.
