Currently at the Andaz Scottsdale and the staff confirmed they will be starting a renovation later this summer. 32 of the bungalows will be renovated and turned into 16 two room suites.

"Renovation" - really? Can hardly imagine, the hotel merely opened 2 years ago...

Suspect they are having trouble drawing high dollar clientele from the better resorts in the area with their current room inventory.

My guess is that converting 32 rooms to 16 suites is not going to fix their fundamental issues. No golf course, no history, no views, and then there's that entrance off the strip mall parking lot.

One of the members of the marketing team (who we chatted with today) said they have received numerous complaints about their lack of suites and the hotel is continually overcrowded since they just have the one main pool area, and that cutting back on the number of rooms will hopefully fix that issue.

Double elite night promo July1-Aug 31 at Andaz properties, so I am taking advantage and doing a quick getaway with my daughter to Andaz Scottsdale in August. Glad that the resort fees will be waived (I'm a Globalist).

Agreed; room size changes are start, but what about a golf course, offering more dining options, small pools (both), etc? LOL The design is too spartan for my taste. My guess is that Hyatt thought it identified a niche market for a boutique-ish property in Scottsdale, but this was a big swing and a miss. To be fair though, the staff IME were excellent and very helpful and food was enjoyable.

For Scottsdale though, I'll take the Phoenician or the Fairmont or FS for non-points earning/redeeming.

Checked in yesterday. So far little underwhelmed. Tbh, wish I had gone back to Regency Gainy Ranch.
They charge $5 for all the minibar snacks, which I find little surprising.
Don't know how standard it is to have chromecast in Andaz but it is pretty cool - I know Napa did and W Hollywood didn't.
As a data point, I am told staffs here can call to arrange with Regency Gainy Ranch so we can use their pool.

Has anyone actually tried one of these two activities(!) included in their daily resort fees? Any input is appreciated.
  • Daily access to Cattle Track Art Compound and preferred access to artists’ studios
  • Daily access to the Arizona State University Kerr Cultural Center

Was here after visiting the Grand Canyon. Really enjoyed my stay. Minimalist and modern, unlike the Arizona Biltmore (Waldorf Astoria) which we didn't like that much. Really enjoyed the 1960's convertible that gives you a tour around the area of the most instagram-able places!

Just finished a 5 nights stay on Prive rate booked with the help of Cityguy1.
The resort is very nice. Check in was efficient, and the host offered to escort me to my room.
The room is in great condition with a small private yard in the back. Comfy bed and couch. Plenty of power sockets. The wall may be a bit thin, but luckily my neighbors were not loud.
Within the room, there is not much privacy to talk about. There is no door between the bedroom and the bathroom. The backyard is right outside the shower and you can see it either through the window or the glass on the door to the back yard. It may not be the best idea for two friends to share room here.
Talking about the shower, there are two shower heads plus one handheld in the giant shower room. Practically it is too spacious for one people taking shower alone here, but still..... No temperature control on the water, but the water temperature was perfect for me with decent pressure.
Strangely only one sink (considering the two shower heads) in the super long bathroom table.
Received a big bottle of VOSS sparkling water and some meat jerky (not sure what kind of meat though) as amenity, besides the normal Andaz free non-alcohol drink and snacks (chips, kind bar and toffee. other snacks are not free here).
The $100 resort credit was applied directly at the end of the bill. I had one dinner for about $60. So some resort credit covered part of my room rate as well. This is huge YMMV of course.
They have a house TESLA they can drive you to anywhere within 5 miles radius, but they don't do pick up. So you need to uber or lyft back. I asked about going to the Dessert Botanic Garden, which google map showed as 4.5 mile away. Unfortunately, the host told me it is out of their 5 mile range. However, within 2 min, the host called back saying they will make an exception and took me there. Talking about literally going the extra mile.
The food here are quite good. Some breakfast selection are special. I like the chili pepper they put on the fruit. The dinner menu price is reasonable, with a decent 3-6 PM happy hour.
Due to the forth night free, Hyatt only counted 4 qualifying nights for me instead of the 5. I will wait until the double nights showed in my account and contact Hyatt to see if this can be amended.

this resort is stupid with advance pricing

$172n Labor Day weekend 2018
$477n Memorial Day weekend 2019
$477n Labor Day weekend 2019

what's the point of loading only bs rates for advance planners? is Scottsdale in 100° going to be high demand next year?

Agree, quite unrealistic but common practice. While with airlines early booking can land you lower (though restricted) fares, with hotels it can be the other way around. If you have the points and points or points & cash bookings are available I'd use those first and then wait for rates to drop and switch when price is right.

I would assume no, that the hotel just doesn't do this, although upgrades might be more frequent as a result of the hotel renovating some rooms to combine them into suites. Previously they basically had one or two presidential suites (I think there was a second one in the private reserve area that's mostly occupied by groups) and only one "standard" suite for upgrades.
