Strangely I was v2 at the hr kyoto in my recent first ever stay. Can't imagine why. Didn't really get me any noticeable treatment difference. |
Chatted up my very friendly front desk agent. I asked her what my VIP code was, at first she didn't know what I meant, when I mentioned V1, V2 etc she knew exactly what I was talking about, here is what I learned from her:
V1 - Heads of state, celebrities V2 - Courtesy Card Holders V3 - Event Planners V6 - That was me, not sure the rhyme or reason, but so be it. She said I would still get treated very well. And I have been V8 - Undesirable, she did confirm that for me. She told me that I didn't want to be a V8 and she asked how I had learned about the codes. Thanks for the interesting topic...next time I will ask how I can move up the V chain...hopefully up to V4. |
:td: Can't believe I have to go to all the trouble to become a head of state to get a V1 ranking. And then after going to all that trouble - still missing out on the top upgrade because Queen Elizabeth is in town: "Sorry Sir, she has been a V1 for the last 60 years - we do have a nice room overlooking the carpark for you though".
Seriously doubt politely mentioning problems during a stay merits a V8 - I'm sure tone and demands for compensation play a bigger part. |
Upon further inspection, it ends up that the front desk person (who I actually see more often than I see my own family) was joshing with me. It was a directly baited by-product of how the conversation developed yesterday:
Guest: "I understand that Hyatt has a V-code for guests. Supposedly, V1's are celebrities and V3's are regular Diamonds and V8's are trouble-makers. Would you mind telling me what my V-code is, please?" Front Desk: "You're a V-8" (expressed in mock horror). Apparently she recognized the opportunity for a great punch-line so she took advantage of it. In actual fact, I'm a V3. She confirmed that V8's like to start arguments and cause a big fuss. Alas, I don't participate in the front desk activities enough to qualify. :) I usually do Web Checkin and Checkout, arriving after 6:30 pm and leaving before 7 am. They see me just long enough to hand over the room key. For all the people in this thread who don't even know me but said I richly deserve to be a V-8, all of you are now permanently V8's in my system. :) |
I guess that explains why I am a V6, I complained about a housekeeper who came into our room and left the door open while we were sleeping, and also complained about sewage leaking on me at the Grand Hyatt NYC.
If that makes me a V6 (or even a V8) so be it, I am not going to keep silent about major issues, but am willing to let little ones go... |

V8 is the only difficult guest code.

The other posts are a bit off in their answer. I can confirm that Hyatt uses V1-V8 to classify its guests.
V1 is infact for high profile people as well as hyatt execs and other company execs V2 is for VIP of the hotel itself, not so much of Hyatt as a company. Sometimes a diamond member can get a V2 based upon the hotel V3 is the normal diamond classification V4-V7 are for different categories of sales that will place people in. V8 is a person who has had a problem at a hotel and the hotel has an alert to look out for this person as they have had issues at another property before or complain often. |

M0hamed already answered that V6 isn't a problem code. This is an older post, but probably answers your question fairly well.
I'll assume you're either a Platinum who doesn't have a lot of stays in Hyatts or a general HGP member. |

Nope Diamond about to requal for 2017. I thought diamonds were v3 which is why I thought I was dropped down due to those two major complaints that I listed. |

Such as yours?
Anyhow, I range from a V2-V4 from the folks I've chatted with. I've got a V2 at a property I stay at constantly and make their quarterly "most frequent" guest list, which would explain why they've asked for my photo and check out my LI page. Others are normal diamond. I've only talked to a couple of people at properties I frequently stay along with a couple folks who work for Hyatt that I have beers with now and again when I'm traveling. Anyhow. |

As suspected, I am a V8 at the Grand Hyatt Berlin, most likely thanks to the unpleasant and unprofessional GM in Cologne, after 10 years being a Diamond, with no problems at all (I would guess that the coding extends to the whole "German system" within Hyatt). When I made it clear to the friendly receptionist lady that I understand what that means, she smiled sheepishly and said "it just means that we should have a look in the notes to make sure everything is alright". And in the notes...it said that, on a flexible rate (however, BRG claim), I would not be allowed to shorten the stay without a penalty...first time I was told that in a Hyatt hotel (I don't want to shorten this one anyway). Oh well :).
