I'm totally with Gary Leff on this one . . . Cat 7 C+P is a bad deal compared to pure points. You're buying 15,000 points for 2 cents each, which is more than they are worth by any objective analysis.

The traditional benefits of C+P over all points were (1) DSU eligibility, and (2) stay credit. The first benefit has now been mooted for all of us, and the second for some of us (since we've stopped chasing Hyatt status).
With all the points I have accumulated and spent/plan to spend, I've yet to redeem for less than 2.8 cents/pt (this PHNY trip, is actually the lowest valuation of redeemed points in my portfolio of past/booked stays). So, the 'buying 15,000 points for 2 cent apiece' sound enough to me. I have more good places to put points than points I can seem to accumulate (and Yes, I bought my max points from Hyatt this year when they ran the promotion on them at 1.7 cents/pt, that is how exactly I got the points for my planned stay).

Your math may work for you because you can't find good enough other redemptions in your travel plans. That is fine, just like it is fine if 'chasing' WoH status doesn't fit you. It can't be all things to all people. YMMV.

Moved here from Andaz 5th as service went to crap during stay.

Good stay - upgraded to exec suite on cert / points and paid nights (second room upgraded to deluxe) let us check in at about 9:30am and picked up first day breakfast which was nice. Also picked up breakfast for both rooms and offered late checkout without asking for both rooms. Finally feels like they have worked out th kinks. Doormen recognised me upon arrival.

breakfast seems to be a step up from my last stay a couple months ago. Menu slightly changed but preparation and food quality went up.

only odd thing was i was charged 26 dollars for a large ice bucket and champagne flutes on our last night (none broken) Very odd on that one. Was in a hurry so did a app check out - but may have to email on this one as I’ve never been charged for ice or glassware.

Sounds like a nice stay. Did you have overages on the breakfasts or stayed within the limits? Be nice if they finally let coffee or a juice go. I'm surprised you were charged for ice and champagne glasses. I know they charge for a birthday cake.

I called for a bucket of ice and glasses and was not charged. Also agree that the breakfast and service in the restaurant continues to excel. The lobster scramble is great. If you order an entree, you do have to choose between one of a side, coffee or juice to stay within limits however.

On my recent last stay, I found Globalist recognition to be pretty much non existent at the front desk. Not a huge deal, but when I requested late checkout, the agent said it was 'based upon availability'. I politely disagreed and pointed them toward the official T&C indicating it's a guaranteed Globalist benefit provided the property isn't a resort/casino. They insisted and I didn't see any point in pushing it further at that point.

Obviously, this can create problems if you have planned an afternoon in the city around a late checkout. Long story short, after completing the post stay survey and back and forth with the property, I think they now realize it is a guaranteed benefit as the T&C is currently worded. It wouldn't surprise me if we see a change next year unf.

On the prior stay, it had been the total opposite - upgraded to suite, late checkout proactively offered, plus amenity waiting in room.

Clearly, footastic was charged for gunksny's order.

Whenever I'M in that situation, I speed-dial the Hyatt Concierge on my cell phone, explain that I'm at a hotel which seems confused about Globalist benefits (particularly the late checkout benefit), then I hand my phone to the hotel agent (or put it on speakerphone). Hint: always allow people the right to gracefully be wrong. For example, "hey, no worries, there are so many rules that I can't even imagine how y'all keep track. And sometimes, after you learn a new rule, it changes again! Anyway, let's follow today's rules for today's stay."

I've stayed there twice. The service is less than stellar, but I think we can strive to be less condescending when allowing "people the right to gracefully be wrong."

When talking to a front desk agent, chances are high that you're talking to a fairly new employee. (Because it's an entry-level job.) A large percentage of customers ask for a late checkout. Only a tiny small few are actually entitled to receive it. The same goes for suites. So, when a front desk agent says "no late checkout" or "no suites available", that response is actually correct, and in line with their training, 97% of the time. Any inconsistencies are Training Issues, rather than "the front desk agent is ignorant and/or simply doesn't like me".

Did room service every day aside from early morning arrival from redeye.. I was charged the delivery fee and anything over ~120$ - Typically ordered 2 Entrees 1 Pot of Coffee Juice and Hashbrowns or Bacon.

A few days we ordered drinks as part of breakfast so its hard to judge but most of the days were ~30-40$ (2 mimosas and delivery) which seemed reasonable to me.

Only in NYC, but on two occasions in NYC, I've had properties propose a charge for champagne flutes but not for other glassware. Once was the St. Regis when I called down (but no charge was proposed when I instead asked the butler personally). The other was the Westin Times Square where I was told something like the champagne flutes had to come from room service. So I instead just called for an ice bucket, and then when it came, a $5 bill got me some champagne flutes a few minutes later.

Long story short, maybe there's some quasi-industry thing in NY about champagne flutes where properties want to charge for them.

Wouldnt surprise me. Just was odd as we had them two other nights without charge. Seems like staff is still inconsistent here. Even bar bills were inconsistent sometimes we were charged 25 dollars for a drink vs 19 the next day (same drink). Suspect this is a training issue.

Our FDC was great and produced a true upgrade without prompting or groveling "since it is your first time here". He offered late checkout without being asked.

The room itself was on the 11th floor and fabulous. The "honor bar" is more like an "honors cabinet" for people who have way more money than they need and would rather pay a very extreme markup than go down to the street and pay a normal price.

The server at breakfast was great but the restaurant itself was also pricey with a very odd vibe and odd seating. I believe we were quoted a $90 allowance which we unexpectedly exceeded, especially since they added a "service fee" and tax before the tab was presented. But nothing actually hit the folio.

I guess it's still a case of your YMMV for beakfast overages at this property.

It has been years since my vastly disappointing stay here shortly after the grand opening.of the PH New York
Have decided to forgive and do a night here just to see what has changed if anything over the years.
I am going with a positive outlook and seeing just how they perform Diamond vs Globalist recognition
Trip Report to follow.
I'm coming off two sensational stays last week at both the Park Hyatt Sydney and the Grand Hyatt Melbourne ^
After 20 plus years two Hyatt Hotels still at the top of their game and rising

Did they hack up the price recently? I’m going to be in NY around Christmas. Initially (a few weeks ago) I was able to get a basic room at the Park Hyatt for 3 nights for $650 per night. A week ago I switched to the MO instead due to its supposed view. Now I heard that MO rooms are small and would like to switch back to PH, but looks like the rate has gone up to $925 now.

In comparison, both StR and FS are around $775/night for the same dates.

It's called a floating rate of the day based on availability....
