Depends on your source for the definition

Can you elaborate? You mean it's definitely not worth spending extra points?
With a plat upgrade (not guaranteed I know), booking a Jr Suite would send me to a better one?

As I mentioned before, my goal is to have a separate area where I could place my son's crib without bothering each other when he's sleeping and we're not. If the rooms are big enough to do this that's fine with me.

Thanks again.

We were on the 9th floor overlooking W. 57th (which is where all the Jr. Suites face).
I mentioned this fact in my response to you in post #740.

I've stayed in one of these and while there is a lot of space, there is no separation. This is much like the entry Park Suite at the PH Paris Vendome. I can't say whether you'd be happy with it or not.

Strange parking question I admit

Rather strange question, but I was wondering if anyone knows how the parking fee is charged at the PH in NY. I have a couple of days I will be there coming up next week and I will have my car with me. I know there is valet for $65 dollars a day and self park for a bit less. My question is whether it is charged as part of the hotel bill or is it a separate garage type charge (or maybe it depends on whether valet or not). I only ask as I have some credit on my Arrival card that I need to use up this month and I will be staying on an award stay so there probably won't be much on the actual hotel bill itself (unless I spurge on in the spa or something but unlikely). If it shows up as parking garage fee I doubt the Arrival will give me credit but as it will be a few hundred bucks I was curious.

I just spent 5 days at the Park Hyatt New York for spring break. Initially was nervous about blowing a huge wad of points on a property that gets so-so review here but boy was I wrong. I was BLOWN away by the service, food, comfort of the room, and location. Every single interaction with the staff was superb. I did get an upgraded room (not suite) which was fine. The breakfast was out of this world. My wife and 9 year old daughter loved it. My wife is not usually fazed by my travel snobbery but even she commented on what a great experience this was. We got to use the house car (MB S550) quite a bit and on one night when my wife and daugther were goint to a show the bellman had the car take them more than the requisite 10 blocks. We particularly liked the non-hotel feel with the different level check in and room elevators. HIGHLY recommended and can't wait to go back.

Meh

I agree with most of the previous reviews. Before it opened, this was my most anticipated opening and wanted to finally try it. I used points and agree that it does not command the price tag.

There was a doorman 2 out of the 8 times I entered/left and the door is heavy.

I specially booked the ADA double because it was 800sf vs the 500-600sf for King standard room. I was upgraded to the deluxe double which is <600sf.
Brings up a point I never thought of: if someone wanted an ADA, should the hotel upgrade to nonADA without communicating with guest? ADA double was no longer available by the time I arrived. They were nice enough to upgrade me to the King jr suite for the error.

Room with nice enough with high end finishes, but not spectacular.

This is a new build, so I would expect the sound proofiing to be better. The siren and street noise was completely audible. Even with the bathroom separating the bed from the hallway, the hallway noise was completely audible.

Service: everyone is nice enough and service would be considered good if you do not travel internationally. However, it does not nearly approach the service of even HR and GH in Asia, let alone a Park Hyatt.

Breakfast was excellent.

Not a stay I will be repeating.

Given that you attempted to deprive a person living with disability a room they require, excuse me if I have no sympathy for your plight.

When you or a family member requires these facilities perhaps then you have will have some decency and common sense.

I agree and was expecting that response. That was the only room PHNY assigned for point reservation for my family of 4. It raised an issue I never though of before. It was a point of curiosity, not a plight. But comes with the territory for most on this forum to quickly judge.

Are you telling me that no one books or stays in a ADA room and reserve those in case someone else needs it. Is that the unwritten etiquette?

I suspect people are reacting to this comment:

Correct. Those were the 2 options for point reservation at PHNY. The size was the determining factor vs Andaz 5th with DSU.

In my personal opinion, there is a difference between booking an ADA room because it is the only room available (acceptable) vs. booking an ADA room because it is larger than the standard award room (wouldn't do it). Others may disagree.

Eh, I've booked bc I liked the configuration of the room better. At the hyatt place in Owings mill the ada room has a table. I'm not sure why, but I like that. That being said, if someone with actual ada needs came in I wouldn't complain when they handed it over. I think that's where the line is crossed

I returned to the hotel for a 6 night stay following correspondence with the GM after my last visit. This time the hotel kindly upgraded me to a West Side suite so I got that sliver of Central Park view that others have been talking about.

The room was a bit smaller than the executive suite I was in last time, mostly by making the living room a bit narrower. Otherwise there wasn't terribly much difference, either one is fine by me.

Contrary to what was reported above, I experienced absolutely no problem with the doormen this trip. Day or night, someone was always there and the doors were opened (almost always electrically) each time. So my experience was that this was a significant improvement over my first stay. Sorry to read that this was still uneven for some, but that wasn't my experience.

Front desk personnel were also much more helpful than last time. The concierge did get us into a restaurant that we couldn't book on our own, that was also nice.

I was greeted by name multiple times during my visit but I suspect that it was because it was something I had mentioned in my earlier correspondence. It doesn't seem like this is common for others.

The biggest negative is that it is necessary to be very careful in the bar/restaurant lest additional charges pile up. Diamonds should not order anything other than the included 57th St breakfast. Unless you want bottled water, make it very clear you are OK with tap.

Overall, I think matters have improved a lot since my first stay and I would now be happy to stay here again.

Sounds like a reasonable experience. Just curious, what room type did you book on this visit and the previous one?

It doesn't matter since Richard has "special" status - not relevant to us pedestrian Diamonds.
