+1. Heck, if it's a Valentine's Day thing, you shouldn't need extra rooms in a big suite anyhow...
If you want to game anything, I'd plan to arrive right smack at 4:00 p.m. -- that way if your room isn't yet ready right yet, which is likely, they'll give you a big fat bar tab to run up while you wait.

Assuming you did 60k for a premium suite, it's a great use of points. It's a beautiful room that isn't ordinarily available to the points masses.

Yea used the points, hoping maybe they upgrade my first two days so I don't have to move rooms assuming they have availability. Really though we are teleworking Monday and Tuesday so with a late checkout on Tuesday we're spending two full days in the room and the going rate right now is $1800+ so 3 cents per point I feel like is solid value

Had another points stay here as a Globalist, 60k points for the City View suite, which was going for $1900. No Carnegie suite upgrade for us . Got a lower floor (14), facing south, which isn't that big of a deal since the park view on the north side is really only a sliver. Breakfast for 3 of us in the Living Room came out to 200+ with tax/tip (!!!!) but it was all comped except for the gratuity (technically they will only cover 1 hot entree, 1 hot beverage, and 1 cold beverage for up to 2 people, but may cover more at their own discretion).
2 of the 3 treadmills in the gym aren't working, so not many cardio options. Pool wasn't crowded. Valet service is much faster this time (last time we stayed in April, it took them an hour to bring the car around). They still won't bring a copy of the NY Times to your room becuase of "COVID", but they'll bring you room service meals -- makes no sense, but whatever.
Overall, service has improved a bit since the hotel reopened, though they maintain the same polite indifference to Globalists, particularly on point redemptions, as they always have. No matter though -- the stay was very good. We'll be back, like always.

I'm wondering, has anyone tried slipping the check in desk a $20 ala Vegas when asking for a Globalist upgrade?

The only question is whether it debases you more than the person you're attempting to bribe....

When you check in, ask how much it would cost to upgrade so that you can stay in the same 1 bedroom suite the whole weekend. If you get lucky, it might be as low as $250/night. Unless you're a total deadbeat, that's a great deal and worth taking.
And of course, if you get really really lucky, you might just get it given to you. But almost certainly not if you go in there asking for a freebie (or far worse, trying a bribe; this ain't the Excalibur. LOL)
