booked with points - can i switch to cert?
the problem seems to be that hotel is full...
i am not sure if the hotel switched cat's but it is cat4 now. My original booking was for 18k points - so cat5? I called GP and they said they cant switch because hotel is full. Anyone has experience this similar situation? Am I "stuck"? I am guessing cancelling existing reservation before I have a new one is a big "no"... thanks! |

I would suggest trying the trick of calling back several times until you get an agent who can help you. If award rooms and stay certificate rooms come out of the same inventory, as I suspect they do, then I do not see why customer service cannot change the payment method without canceling the reservation and rebooking. At least in the past, switching from points to promotional award nights was possible without needing to cancel and rebook. |
The new categories are not in effect yet - don't know when your stay is. If it's after, then perhaps PM our Gold Passport Concierge staff here on Flyertalk, they as well informed experienced agents may be able to do something. But do not cancel your existing reservations outright.

turns out I forgot that I booked the club room, thats why its 18k.
Its a new year eve night - so everything is booked solid. I booked it a while back and didnt have the cert at the time. Ill just keep checking and switch if I can - dont plan to spend much time in the room :-) I asked the Hyatt insider too - its not possible to switch because of the room difference. |
Since it is New Year eve, I doubt you will have any luck with somebody canceling at this stage.
