It Depends

It honestly depends on what you are looking for -- this is a totally different experience than the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress. That is closer to Walt Disney World and has a much larger "resort" feel whereas the Hyatt Regency Orlando is in the heart of I-Drive and right next to SeaWorld.

I have not been to the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in quite some time, but with the new management and the enhanced recognition for Diamond members there, I will be back to try it again soon. But, I must also say that the Diamond recognition at the Hyatt Regency Orlando was also quite nice.

All-in-all, it is really a toss of the coin as to which of these properties to stay at. Take advantage of the "MyEliteRate" and try the Hyatt Regency Orlando sometime.

(My only complaint is that I miss the Peabody Ducks!)

EXcellent Stay

Just came back from Hyatt Regency (formerly known as the Peabody). I don't have much time right now but can say that as a Diamond on a points/cash stay and then on award stay we were NOT charged the resort fee (they said waived for Diamonds) and that self-parking was comped for Diamonds. The lounge was one of the best we've seen for US properties... wonderful selection in the AM -- even offered to-go boxes for those rushing off the the convention center... as well as a 4-day rotating menu for evening nibbles and evening desserts. Soft beverages available throughout the day... lovely coffee machine w/cappy options etc. Lounge staff was extremely helpful and attentive. Everyone on staff (both former Peabody employees to Hyatt staff brought on after conversion) were all around excellent. First stay we had points/cash during very busy convention (38K in Orlando and hotel almost at capacity). Had a double room and asked if an upgrade was possible... said "if you don't mind a king we can do a suite" DUH... sure, had a slightly strange setup-- had to go through main room to get to bath BUT two very nice rooms living room with a sofa bed (actually after our second stay in executive King -- realized the living area in suite was actually the size of King room. Health club had a wide assortment of machines AND different classes (yoga, pilates, spinning etc) which are included in resort fee (comp for Diamond). It's a great Hyatt to go to for Universal.

Stayed one night in early March. I was excited to see the transition from he Peabody, but unfortunately a bit let down in the end. Keep in mind this is a convention hotel. I don't think they handle crowds that well, however. Loooooonnnnggg lines at check in, and one front desk rep at the Plat/Diamond line. After waiting20 minutes at the Diamond line, I had to jump on a conference call and went for the restaurant. At 2pm, he line for take out ans seating was horrendous too. I found a quiet spot at the lobby bar, which really isn't in the lobby. I ordered a personal pizza from the very
Invited bar menu and asked if they could add a side salad. Impossible. Really? Aren't all the kitchens more or less shared or connected to one another back of the house? Soda was not refilled without me asking and it took forever to get the check. I finally got my room, a standard queen (I had reserved a king) on the 28th floor. Not a bad view, and room was clean and slightly upgraded from your typical Hyatt rooms. I walked to the Pointe for dinner, passing by the amazing pool. Regency Club is standard fare and busy.

Great place if you are there for a convention, but if you are there for business or pleasure, there are less stress free places to stay.

Sounds like you had the cosmopolitan suite like what we had... the whole walk through the living room to the bath was weird, but a nice room indeed. Glad you had a great stay in MCO.

I was wondering why the Metropolitan suite was larger than the VIP suite and the Plaza Suite, but was offered as the designated suite upgrade, plus the rates for the Metropolitan suite is less than VIP and Plaza when inquiring.

Its because of the walk across the living room to the bathroom. Hopefully, the windows are see thru.

I stayed here a few weekends ago, and didn't have a great experience.

I used a diamond suite upgrade. My diamond status the recognized on check-in, I was informed that parking and internet would be free, and I selected an amenity.

The suite was a corner (metropolitan?) on the 28th floor. The upper floors of this property do not have balconies (22nd floor and below do).

The suite was actually a parlor with a sunroom, which looks like it originally was designed as an office vs. a bedroom. That's why the bathroom is not accessible from the bedroom. The disappointing part is that the 'bedroom' does not have a regular bed - it has a fold-down Murphy bed, with a lightweight mattress, and two small pillows.

Poor operations:
- I checked in at about 1:45pm. They checked me into a suite that had not been serviced by housekeeping after the previous guest.
- I called the front desk, they didn't have any other suites they weren't willing to place me in that was also on the same elevator bank as the regency club (23rd? and up) -- the staff member had a hard time hearing me over the lobby noise
- They said they'd like me out while they cleaned the room, so would temporarily put me in a suite on the 20th floor while they refreshed the 28th
- They said a bellhop would be up to move me
- No bellhop was available, but the front desk staff member I talked to brought up room keys for the 20th
- She also offered 15k HGP points for the inconvenience
- I had to take a conf call at that point, and said I'd move myself to the 20th in an hour
- An hour later I moved to the 20th, and called the front desk to say I was out of the 28th suite - they didn't know what I was talking about and 'couldn't hear me - it was loud in the lobby'
- The 20th floor room had my amenity ready and waiting there
- After another 30 mins, the original front desk staff person called the room and confirmed with me that I had moved, and that if I keep my luggage together near the door, they would have a bellhop move it once they have cleaned the 28th
- I said I'll be out for a while, the staff person took down my cell phone and agreed to call me once they are ready, and I'll be in the 28th floor room for the evening
- I never got a call. I returned to the hotel after 7pm, and found that the 28th floor suite had been cleaned, but my luggage wasn't there
- I did the 4 elevator rides and moved my luggage from the 20th to 28th

- Around midnight, other guests entered my suite on the 28th floor, and said they had just been checked into it
- I called the front desk and let them know they had double assigned the room
- Front desk said they'd send a bellhop up with new keys for me, having been through that lack of bellhop service multiple times that day, I said no, I'll come down and collect them myself

The rest of the weekend went fine, until I got the bill online (hadn't arrived in my email?)
- They had charged me for internet - I wrote to Hyatt customer service to reverse those charges. Took a week, but the refund posted today

I like the property - the location, the pool, the club. It is a large place with conference rooms.

Hope things are smoother going forward.

I think the corner suites need real beds.
I think the front desk staff need headsets to hear people on the phone.

Suite Upgrade

My wife is attending a SHRM conference here in June. Since it falls over my sons 8th birthday, we're making it a family affair and all staying. I'd like to use a suite upgrade here...but would like to make sure I can get something with two rooms.

Unfortunately, the conference has not forwarded her reservation to the hotel yet, so they can't even pull her reservation up, so my GP#isn't attached to it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Stayed here again over the weekend. Another great stay.

I booked last minute since I had a Travelzoo voucher for the restaurant to use. We did one room paid on ME rate. The other was a free room from endless nights.

I used a DSU and got a Metropolitan suite on 18. They gave me the second free (voucher) room as the connector (2 queen beds).

While the resort fee was charged for one room, they did not charge parking.

Also, you may opt for breakfast in NAPA if you are willing to give up club access.

Another amazing stay!

Had another amazing stay at this property ... excellent Diamond recognition!

I posted a very long review with photos on TripAdvisor.

I would highly recommend the private Cabana rentals!!

This seems very odd - having stayed in a few different Met Suites on high-floor corners, I have always had an actual bed... sounds like a fluke?

Stayed for 3 nights earlier this week as a Hyatt Plat. Asked about any upgrades and was told I was in a high-floor, view and that internet was free -- except that it is included in the $20 resort fee. Was offered various upgrades, but at a fee.
The hotel was empty so a bit surprised at no comp upgrades, but my experience at US Hyatts has been they are pretty stingy, while internationally I am usually given lounge access and breakfast in the restaurant.
I did have a problem with the room not being made up one day. I called on returning at 4:30 pm and the room was made up. I mentioned this at check-out and was offered a $50 room credit, asked if I could have 2000 points instead since I was inconvenienced not my company. Agent agreed, but it hasn't posted yet although the basic points for the stay are posted. Contacted Hyatt to ask.
Not a bad stay, but not a great one, either. The room 2-2035 was very comfortable, but not too big.

A few hours after original posting and my message to Contact Us -- got a response from Hyatt Contact Us that they were referring my question about the extra points to the hotel, and 5000 extra points had posted to my Hyatt account. I'm satisfied that this was handled well.

Currently staying, major disappointment. No Diamond upgrade, no acknowledgement as Diamond, two of three elevators inoperable, keys system broken, have to be escorted by bellman to room, staff surly. Never again here.

:-( I'm sorry you had such an awful experience. I'd be really ticked off. Occupancy is likely very low there this time of year, so there's no reason why they should not have upgraded you. It's really quite a shame. That hotel was pretty nice when it was the Peabody for all those years.

Wow, sorry to hear. Which tower were you in?
