Hotel Du Louvre, Hyatt REVIEW - MASTER THREAD
 

We didn't see any reviews on this property and wanted to be right next to the Louvre one of the nights, so we thought this was a good chance to check out what was happening. I also had an expiring Chase suite certificate that I needed to use by this next week. I wish that I had saved it for just about anywhere else.

The property's transition to a Hyatt does not seem to have gone well based on our short stay and observation. It's a category 5 because it's Paris and it's location next to the Louvre. Otherwise, I'd say it's a solid Cat 3 property or barely a Cat 4 property. If you had no other Hyatt option in Paris and were intent on a Hyatt, it'd serve your purpose for a short stay right now. When we're back in Paris, if there weren't other Hyatt options, I'd look to the Hilton/Starwood properties personally.

The service and interaction with staff was lackluster at best. Much more in line with a French/Paris attitude and that of a property that's not a PH, GH or HR. Thus, it's appropriately just a "Hyatt." It started when we arrived a few minutes after 3 pm and the room wasn't ready even though check in was at 3 pm. This wasn't a last minute reservation, and as a Diamond, a room not ready at the normal check in time for the run-of-the-mill guest, is a black mark in my opinion. Maybe it was an issue because there are not many suites and they were intent on putting us in one not ready. I'd assume you'd accommodate differently. Completely understandable for people arriving early in the morning from a flight, but we came up from Nice that afternoon. Short description of benefits and they forget to mention some of them. (I did see a sign that you could pay 35 euro to check into your room early subject to availability).

The room/suite we were in had a fantastic view of the Louvre and the surrounding courtyard and it was on the top level so it was quiet. Besides that, nothing else went for it. It's an extremely awkward floor space setup, the furniture had visible wear and tear, the walls were chipped, the wallpaper was peeling in part, the mirror edging in the bathroom showed rust, the seal on the glass separately the bathroom counters from the shower wasn't foolproof and water ran down both counters. In short, I assume Hyatt plans to remodel these rooms soon.

The breakfast area was cramped and so the selection was limited. There wasn't an omelet station nor any mention by the staff of ordering eggs or anything else. They also had a side table with glasses on it but didn't use the precious space for a water/juice refill area. Instead, the limited servers ran around filling and refilling water and juice for guests in the small glasses, in addition to everything else needed, and were woefully inadequate. At least in Nice and Cannes you could take care of this yourself. There were a few bread options, some fruit, cereal and some inedible prepared egg/bacon sort of items.

The concierge was responsive and friendly, so kudos there. And the property knew about the 4 pm checkout rule for Diamonds. Glad we tried it out to know not to go back and put out a data point for others looking at the Paris area.

It sounds like this property is going to take a long time, and a lot of renovation work, to get up to even a passable standard.

I hope that the shortfalls of this property were due to lack of budget and nothing more. Let's hope that the new GM is given adequate money to transform this.

Fanny Guibouret (former Hotel Manager at Hyatt Regency Casablanca) takes over as GM of Hôtel du Louvre Paris (future Andaz Paris)

Well, I hope none of "issues" with the Hotel du Louvre were because of the former GM, as we have a visit planned at the Park Hyatt Vendome later in the year. I was there a year and a half ago and it was one of the better hotels I've ever been to.

Let's hope so. Can't wait to stop back for a visit after its a Andaz in a few years. Such a good location to many main sights.

FYI: the GM of the hotel has little to do with the over all transformation of the hotel into a Hyatt. Hyatt like all other hotels sends in a CONSULTING TEAM... and perhaps hires a transformation team who has a manager that manages the hotels renovation into the new product.

There is much that happens when a hotel changes a flag... I'm sure Hyatt has hired a consulting company to help with the transfer. So no the GM has little to say how much money is spent on a renovation... case in point Park Hyatt CHICAGO... Hotel GM wanted a complete room make over but in the end a consulting team recommended to cut back on the renovation.

I know the GM who was at Park Hyatt Chicago durng the renovation and was shown a show room that was suppose to be. Sad, the renovation he was pushing for was stunning.

An Andaz in Paris would be great.

This is very disappointing. We stayed here for our honeymoon and it was great and I was hoping to take the family back, but for only a 4,000 point difference it's hard to consider over the PHV. Bummer. I do recall the location as being absolutely fantastic, though.

I was there for 8 nights two weeks ago. I really wanted to love the hotel but it really needs some work.

The lobby is nice and the AC is strong. The room (2 room suite) was basic but comfortable with the exception of the AC. It simply could not keep up.

Nice view though with friendly staff.

As it stands, it should be a Cat 3-4 at best.

Any chance that it will be an Andaz by Sept. 2014?

No award rooms at the PH end of Sept. :( so need an alternative. I'm guessing most would steer me to the Madeleine? Oui?

In FEB 2013 they said it would take 3 - 4 years for the transformation to be completed. :(

I definitely would not steer you to the Hyatt Regency Etoile.

When in Paris I have a small boutique hotel that I have stayed at since I was 17... Service is better than any Hyatt... they done my grocery shopping, picked me up at the airport... etc. etc... :D I've become part of the family... it's right next to hotel de Ville... my loyalty to this hotel has really paid off.
