When 4PM Checkout is Really not 4PM

I usually don't like to start threads but this has become a bit of a pain for me. Once again, I had a 4PM checkout and a do not disturb sign on my door, I get a phone call at 2PM, dead silence, the person on the other end hangs up. Being in the industry for a while, it's probably Housekeeping calling my room. At 230PM, housekeeping knocks on my door, opens my door, keycard retracted the deadbolt but they got stuck by the latch.

If you are given a 4pm Checkout it should really mean 4PM. I have an odd work schedule and at times, I really need that extra sleep.

This is the 4th time this same scenario has happened.

I'm thankful for the 4PM checkout but it is of no use if this will be the way the hotel acts. I even called the Front desk at 11am and advised them, I'd be sleeping until 330pm.

I always call Housekeeping and inform them that I have 4:00 PM checkout. They often don't hear from the Front Desk until after the individual housekeepers have been given their worksheets.

The 4PM checkout is just a note in the system so that you won't be charged for 4PM checkout. I don't think Housekeeping is ever involved.

Great tip. I'll have to start doing that.

I've had late checkout interrupted by housekeeping every time even when (re)confirmed with the FD, so it does seem possible that housekeeping is never involved. The idea to call housekeeping sounds good; I'll have to try that in the future.

When you request 4pm c/o just let the front desk know at the same time that they have to inform housekeeping as well. It's not your duty to inform every department of the hotel about your whereabouts and intentions.

But it is the most sure way to get your sleep.

When I have really late checkouts I just hang the do not disturb and/or mention it to one of the housekeepers when I get back to the room (if they are around). But calling them will work better on my next trip due to the circumstances...

I always keep sticky notes in my laptop bag when traveling; if I am sleeping an awkward hour, I put a note on the door saying that I will be vacating at 4pm and please dont knock.

Ive seen others do this trick with "baby sleeping + late checkout."

Its worked 100% of the time for me.
