There are two Hyatts in Malaysia which I never heard of:

saujana is in suburban KL -- it used to be very near the airport until they opened the new KLIA. Primarily a golf resort. I have eaten there (OK) but not stayed. Kinabalu is in Kota Kinabalu in Sabah state on the island of Borneo. It is a decent downtown business hotel in the middle of everything (what there is in KK). I've stayed twice everything was OK, but not great.

Malaysia- Which Hyatt?

Not expecting to find some a range of choices, which Hyatt is best for-
1. Being near Kuala Lumpur or airport
2. Near a resort area
3. Closest to Singapore

Won't be renting car but would like to go in and out of city.

It's a good sized country --where are you going? Kauntan & Saujana are resorts -- Kuantan beach, Saujana golf. Saujana is in a suburb of KL and near the old airport (not used much any more). Kuantan is on the other side of the pennensula. Johor Bahru is "close" to Singapore but crossing the boarder and dealing with traffic is not always quick & easy. I have had very pleasant stays in Kuantan & JB at the Hyatts -- several others on this Board have not been so happy. The prices, tho are very favorable. email me for more specifics.

Kuantan is a nice quiet resort at a fairly unpopulated beach with some good and cheap local restuarnts nearby. Only problem is the unfinished Sheraton next door.

I've not stayed at the Hyatt in JB, although I have heard anecdotally and read threads on FT that it is a dump.

Note that if you are not stuck on Hyatts, there are Shangri-La's to be had, especially in Penang, for around and under US$100.

The Johor Hyatt isn't as bad as others have made it out to be, providing you can get a low low rate (I've heard as low as MYR 100 inc. tax and breakfast though I paid MYR 180 last year). As others said, there are waits crossing the border to/from Singapore (commuters and shoppers).

The Saujana is between KUL and the city so it's really rather isolated and near nothing being situated in a commercial park. You need to book a taxi ahead of time to get out of the place. O.K. if you are there to play golf but not much to be said for it otherwise. The rate should be about MYR 180 inc. tax and breakfast though you may be able to get it for less.

why not wait a while for the hyatt K.L. to be completed, it only took them about 5 years so far ! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I dont think they will ever finishing building that. The 1/2 built hotel is rotting and rusting. It would take a miracle to get it completed.

Kuantan is a nice resort.. stayed there several times (work related....believe it or not). But it is a nice property.. very clean rooms.. nice view.. but do not leave the doors open unless you want to be surprised by a hungry monkey.....

The view of the south China sea is sweet.. and it has been as cheap as $45 USD a night.

David, are you travelling up to Malaysia via SIN? I'd be interested in hearing of your experiences. I'm going back to SIN in Jan and was planning to either fly up to KL for one night or take a train/bus/cab ??? to the boarder & into JB. In which case, I too, would most likely be looking to stay at either a Hyatt or Starwood.

I walked by it while staying at the Sheraton Imperial last week....it's kind of creepy.

Can anybody comment on the costs of a taxi (or as an alternative: hotel transfer service) and the time needed
- Hyatt Regency Saujana to/from KUL airport
- Hyatt Regency Saujana to/from Batu Caves

Did anybody stay there recently and can report about the stay? How are the restaurants (especially Kogetsu restaurant and Ti Chen restaurant)?

I love KL and I love Hyatt, so I am very much looking forward to the completion of Hyatt KL. Anyone has any idea as to the opening date/year?
