I'm going there next summer; would love dining recommendations!

Butagumi is pretty close and it's the most outrageously good tonkatsu you'll ever have in your life.

I can PM you some of my favourites. Are you looking more for upscale dining, or more small local places?
Not that the tips are a secret, just don't want to fill the thread with too much non exactly GH posts.

I actually rate Butagumi poorly in terms of execution (inconsistency being one of their big issues), so there are a lot of other places I'd recommend for the best tonkatsu in Tokyo - although Butagumi is likely the most interesting shop in Tokyo due to their focus on exotic pig breeds. And it's still a good option if limiting to walking distance from GH Tokyo, and on the plus side they are English-friendly and take reservations.

For those willing to venture slightly further from the hotel, Nomoto's and Aoki near Daimon Station / Hammatsucho are good options, or just forget everything else and go to Narikura.

staying in the hotel right now. booked the basic king bed room with points for two night. was upgrade to two twin bed deluxe room. the tokyo tower is right in the center of the window view. super excited with the view.

the breakfast was just so so, not ecompared to the HR Tokyo I stayed last year. the selection is pretty limited.

The pool is currently closed for unscheduled maintenance. Staying guests will be afforded free use of a nearby pool, or the pool at Andaz Tokyo.

More information here.

It has a great location to reach rest of Tokyo, connected to Roppongi hills with many interesting restaurants and shops, and walking distance to the rest of Roppongi. I loved that the room, even the entry level ones come complete with everything and they get all the basics right, a large comfy bed, bathroom with great water pressure, quiet air-conditioning, a large sunken tub that fills up in under 3 mins ( and that's the fastest I have seen in my travels ! ), electronic blinds, intuitive switches and nice working desk. Only nitpick there is not much of a view. Don't really care at this price level. Service is beyond excellent. Every request is promptly attend to. Housekeeping remember my preferences. Concierge will go out of their way to get things done. They even have hotel attendants / bellhops dressed in suits. Every check-in, the guest is escorted in person to the room.

I have tried nearly all luxury hotels in Tokyo except Aman, including RC, Shangri-la, Intercon, Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental, FS, etc.. and for me, Grand Hyatt Tokyo hit that sweet spot on value, location and service. I am not staying anywhere but here.

As for food, I quite like the Teppanyaki restaurant and I often dine there and entertain my business associates. And yes, the restaurants are rather expensive. There are lots of more affordable dining options walking distance from the hotel.
That's exactly what I want to hear. Any comment on the food spread in the lounge? Champagne as well?

I like the food in the lounge, but I really try to avoid eating dinner there because food is the whole reason I go to Tokyo; I want to eat at the local restaurants. There are some excellent places very close to the hotel. I'm not a champagne or wine drinker. I know that they have some; I can't comment on the quality (I'm sure it's quite good). I mostly drink Suntory Premium Malt beer there during the happy hr, which I like a lot, and it's relatively expensive as far as beers go (even in Japan, and it's ridiculously expensive here)

I do eat breakfast at the lounge on a daily basis; it's basic but I really like it. They have both Japanese dishes and western dishes.

It's also worth noting that the rooms are quite large by Tokyo standards. Even the basic, standard room is reasonably spacious and quite nice. So not getting an upgrade is not a big deal (although the suites are beautiful)

I'm sort of leaning on the GH Tokyo because it's part of Prive and I can stay least get breakfast. The HR Tokyo is much cheaper, but my Explorist status won't get much.

Well, you can always go out and buy breakfast for a fraction of what you will save.

The GH is a much nicer, fancier hotel, with much better rooms. You get what you pay for here. There is nothing wrong with the HR, but it's clearly a step down from the GH.

I've gotten so spoiled with breakfast at the hotel that it's difficult to go outside and get food. lol.

Just note that breakfast is changed at the GHT at the moment. There is no breakfast buffet, there are only set items prepared in the kitchen and served. It is a quite huge amount of food, I did not try to see if I could get additional bread or items as I did not make it half way through what was served. This is due to the corona virus outbreak.

What are they serving at the moment?

Basically the same things as on the buffet, just put in to sets. Continental, full American, Japanese sets. And you can also do individual orders of items like eggs benedict etc. However, for breakfast included in the rate they only allow the sets, not the more advanced individual orders. No idea how long it will stay like that, until the virus on a very clear downward trend I guess. Though with people's general behaviour at buffets, I appreciate this initiative.

Stayed there last week in a Grand Executive Suite. Better than my last experience years ago.

Continental is such a dirty word for me if that makes any sense due to all of the horrible continental breakfasts I've had at the cheap hotels/motels over the years. Is that the case here?

I agree with you about the behaviour at buffets in general. It's kind of annoying. They're doing what you're describing at the AMEX Centurion Lounge in Hong Kong.
