So, DL puts us up there. Good news!
By the way, I learned that Pat and Huskie still live there, though I didn't see them. Since I thought I saw something here to the contrary, I told the RC concierge that I'd waited until that story was history to ask what that was all about... He said it's not history, and shrugged, palms up. So, I guess we'll have to wait to know "the REST of the story..."

Near-Perfect
Had a close to perfect stay last night. Weekend AAA promo rate for under $90. Relaxing atrium view room on RC floor. The RC was open on a weekend, and had an excellent evening and morning spread - perhaps the new standard RC fare, or a local enhanced version.
Evening: shrimp and pasta salads, chunky red potato salad, many grilled vegetables, prosciutto and ham, salmon, sweet pocketbread, goat cheese cubes with sweet relishes, and more - and for dessert a light black forest cake, heavy-cream chocolate puffs, cookies, fruit.
Morning: Meats and salmon, chevre, cereals and oatmeal, many interesting pastries and more - although I used the AAA breakfast coupon to dine downstairs.
My breakfast choice at Sweetwater Cafe (from the menu, buffet also available): Breakfast cioppino, an unbelievably tasty dish of poached eggs and asparagus over a load of dungeness crab and stewed tomatoes. Served with sourdough toast.
I was probably the only person to enjoy an outdoor swim and hot soak after dark in air temperatures around 45 degrees. But I did enjoy it. Also took advantage of the RC floor private fitness center.
Nice details in the room, such as small refrigerator, bathrobes, shower gel. Card from the GM under the door.
Great staff, almost certainly union, many of whom have been there for years - from the classy, attentive doorman to the front desk staff to the restaurant and RC attendants.
Unfortunately for some people, it has been announced that Scalini's Northern Italian restaurant will close at the end of January.

I was also there last night same AAA rate, the atrium view room on the RC floor was very nice. I'm dissapointed to have missed out on the RC, as I arrived late and left early to catch a flight.

Stayed here last Friday evening. I asked the desk clerk if my room backed up to the freeway, and he said "No, it's actually a very nice room". We went up the room and found it backed to the freeway. However, the noise from the freeway was hardly a whisper, so we stayed. It probably helped that we were on the Regency Club floor (top floor, 9th). It also gave me a chance to play around with taking some time-elapsed photos of the traffic going by.
Very good selection of goodies in the Regency Club. You can fill your plate in the evening and still have to go back to try other offerings.
The pool and spa are ridiculously far away for use, as you have to cross the entire hotel to get there from the elevators. We passed.
Bath tile showed some age, and we also had a CRT TV. However the hotel is still a good value on a discounted rate especially when you have Club access.

Am here on a MR on a AAA/Breakfast rate. The buffet at the Swiftwater Cafe ends at 0900? On a Sunday?? And it ends at 0930 on all other days???
Since when do you have a buffet breakfast that rolls up the carpet EARLIER on a Sunday than other days of the week?

Still no excuse, though.
Used the breakfast coupon at the coffee bar ( Starbuck's ? ) close to the restaurant in the past.

I was told by the staff that they stop accepting new hotel brunch customers at 0900 and that brunch gets shut down around 0930. I guess the "fancy" brunch has more variety as well as a jazz trio but I didn't hang around to check that out because I had a ball game to attend. Two tiered brunch; first time I've ever seen that.

checked in today. as a diamond, was given an interior view room that was dirty and smelly. place was swarming with with some kind of convention. RC small - looked like people were bringing in four or five of their friends from the convention; no one checking or greeting to discourage that kind of practice.
regretted not going somewhere else.
