I've stayed there 6 times during the past 4 years. Never any problems. I am surprised by some posts about inattentive service; I have found the service to be quite good. I also never have a problem checking-in early, even though I was only a Gold during my first 2 stays.

The open, atrium-style is breathtaking. I find myself looking up in wonder, even though I've seen it before. The lobby is very nice, with ample places to sit and relax, or hold an informal meeting.

Views are excellent, although I find it amazing that the Andes are difficult to see on some days - even though they are thisclose - because of the smog.

Room layout is nice - very comfortable and standard rooms are a very nice size. I would prefer a full shower door, as I find no matter what I do, I get part of the floor wet when I use the shower. During my most recent visit, I see they've installed rudimentary "stoppers" on the tub, to keep the shower door from swining in too far. This helps keep more water from flowing outside the shower, but not all of it.

I wish there was an iron and board in the room, but this needs to be requested from housekeeping. Not a big deal, except the quality of these items is very poor and I do an inferior job of freshening up my clothes. Yes, I could have it all done professionally, but it does get expensive.

Location is fine. I take taxis everywhere in Santiago, and even use the hotel "official" taxi (minivan) to get around.

Have eaten at all the hotel restaurants, multiple times, and can't complain about any of them. The Japanese restaurant is terrific, particularly for its set menu for lunch.

RC is very nice, and I have yet to have difficulty in getting a table there. In thinking about it, I guess it's the RC where I probably had my only issues with service. It can take 5-10 minutes to spot a waiter in the morning to get a cup of coffee.

The pool is beautiful, but I haven't had the opportunity to swim in it. However, if you can manage the time, have a drink poolside.

Duke's Lounge is OK. A bit dark inside, so try to snag an outside table. The performers are usually decent. The gal who is singing there now is actually pretty good.

Overall, ^

Talking Grand Hyatt Santiago stay report (Nov 2009)

Used points for a weeks stay over Thanksgiving. I was surprised at the relatively low number of points I needed to book a room at this fine hotel. It was a very good value. As a Plat, I was "upgraded" to the concierge floor. The room on the 16th floor was likely a standard room not a suite although it had a great view and was quite large.

The service in the lounge was wonderful. When I stopped by the front desk to check in, I was escorted to the 16th floor and checked in by the concierge staff who then escorted me to my room. The daily breakfast, snacks, evening reception with free wines, champagne, many food items, was one of the best lounge offerings I've seen. This was a very pleasant and enjoyable stay.

The hotel was clean, service throughout was attentive, everyone spoke English, the pool (a bit cold) was large and I enjoyed the waterfall noise.

It's close (maybe 15 minute walk) to the train station which was very easy to navigate.

The hotel's concierge team set up a wine tasting trip, my only complaint is that they set up only one winery visit. The driver fortunately knew a few wineries and he extended the tour (I paid about $800 for the day, plus I bought him a fancy lunch because he was so insightful and professional.)

I will absolutely return for more wine tasting and would stay at this hotel. Coincidently, while there, the President of Pakistan was staying in the hotel for several days. I was surprised by the what appeared to be a relatively low level of intrusive security. While they had 20+ bodyguards/local police, my travel was never interuppted or impacted.

Santiago Hyatt Team, thank you again for a great stay.

I will be staying here next month and am debating whether to reserve a standard room with points or a club room. I am diamond and am wondering about the likelihood of getting upgraded on a points stay. Any idea?

As diamonds, we are ensured of club access.

Rooms are spacious at this hotel and are very comfortable for two people. I like this hotel very much. It's been a couple years since I stayed, but lounge offerings were lavish, including a chef on hand to carve serrano ham.

This is one of my favourite hotels anywhere, literally. I've stayed here twice, both on points, standard room reserved. The first time I got a HUGE, and I mean ridiculously huge, suite. The second time I was in a club room, which was also spacious and beautiful (neat bi-level design) (in fact, I preferred the club room, as it was higher up, and I felt a bit 'lost' in the suite).

As others have said, the Club Lounge is outstanding.

However, what really sets this hotel apart is the amazing staff, customer service and attention to detail. No matter what room you end up in, I think you'll have an amazing experience there.

I seem to recall that the Marriott is in walking distance, but I am not sure. I have a meeting to attend at the Marriott and I would rather stay at the Hyatt. Is it possible to walk between the two properties and, if so, how long does it take? Many thanks.

I looked it up on maps.google.com. It shows the hotels as 1 km apart or a 12 minute walk. Both are on Av Presidente Kennedy, the Hyatt at 4601 and the Marriott at 5741.

Thank you! It's coming back to me now. I believe there is a shopping mall and food court on the way...

Yes, there's a big mall, food court, giant grocery store...

Or, you can walk through a really nice park which is alongside the mall (opposite side of the mall from Av Presidente Kennedy).

Best way from the airport? Such as shared ride or public transportation or combination.

Thank you.

Thanks very much.

(I was editing to add the part about public/shared transportation when you replied, but will gladly take your advice.)
