My stay (5days) at this property was fine. The thing I loved the best was the proximately to the Path station, from the front door it is about 6 to 7 steps to the Path station.
BE VERY CAREFUL DRIVING INTO THIS LOCATION OR WANDERING AROUND. If you drift anywhere from 4-5 blocks away from the river..........you need to turnaround. The safe neighborhood hugs the river right up to Hackensack. Use public transport, Use Valet and it will be a great stay.

I really liked Jersey City. However I stand by my assertion that after dark, you need to be within 4-5 blocks of the Hudson River. Its a great hotel, its a good value for NYC and offers excellent access (and views) to Manhattan.

To each their own but have walked about a mile away from the property for Indian food, delicious japanese food and pizza. Perfectly safe and not scary at all. If you are used to walking around NYC then you be fine here IMHO.

I don't think it's necessary to say be very careful in caps. Jersey City is very safe, with expensive condos/apts, businesses. A lot of companies/businesses are ending their leases in the city to move to Jersey City, think big banks and tech companies. It is nowhere near scary, very far from that. If you want scary, East New York is scary.

Agree, as long as you stay east of the Turnpike/I-78 you are absolutely fine. We moved to JC (clicked on this thread b/c I was curious) last year, and live downtown a few blocks from this hotel. I would actually recommend venturing a bit away from the hotel, just because there are not a ton of restaurants, etc. right near the hotel.
The Grove St/Newark Ave (about a 10 minute walk, near the Grove St PATH, you could even take the PATH west one stop) is really great. Tons of restaurants and bars, and it's extremely safe and very lively, especially now that the weather is getting nicer.

The walk from the hotel up Christopher Columbus to Grove is safe at night; I've done it many times on weeknights after work. A scoop of Torico's ice cream is a good reward at the end. Bucket and Bay Gelato is even closer to the Hyatt. Much closer to the hotel is this new beer garden; I walked past it on my way home (I work next to the Hyatt). http://www.northjersey.com/story/lif...ity/309267001/
Here's an article from the New York Times that describes the area directly inland from the Hyatt: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/05/n...city.html?_r=0

Stayed here this past Saturday and once again, there were multiple weddings at the property. As a result, all the suites were allocated so the best I could do for a room upgrade was a Hudson View King on the 6th floor facing uptown. The music from the ballroom was pretty noticeable but cut off right after 11 pm (appears to be their cutoff). Sadly, my neighbor decided to have their own party but a 2 am call down to the front desk resulted in a very quick resolution.
The breakfast benefit at Vu remains pretty solid, but given all of the Saturday night noise issues, I'd be really tempted to give the new Hyatt House a block away a chance once it opens.
Free weekend parking can be found in the surrounding area if you read the signs very carefully.

They did credit me 5K points/night and put in in the P+C+upgrade to the Ellis Suite though. Not an awesome recovery, but I'm looking forward to the Ellis Suite and views of Manhattan.

Yeah... I had a reservation for the end of October. They aren't opening until at least mid December now.

Also, feel like the ellis suite isnt a true suite. (no doors to enclose bdrm). Also feel the hudson river suite room has a better layout. Only thing that is better for the ellis suite is that it has 1.5 bathrooms
maybe ask them for a hudson river suite

They emailed me two weeks in advance (both from the hotel and Hyatt "Senior Guest Specialist"). They didn't proactive offer anything other than moving my stay to Candlewood Suite (1BR) at the same price as I booked at Hyatt.
I called the guest specialist @ Hyatt, and that's where I said that I was really trying to get Hyatt night credits and wondering if they could instead move me to HR down the street.

IMO, I think the HUDSON RIVER SUITE is much much better than the Ellis Suite and it is lower category. The Hudson river ste has better views and also a balcony facing the freedom tower/hudson river.

Traveling with family, so I'd definitely appreciate the actual door and it's the first time for almost everyone to NYC so the views would be great as well.
