Hyatt Will Not Honor Rsvs in CA properties from out of state travelers
I just received an e-mail from Hyatt stating that they will not honor reservations at all Hyatt properties in California from out-of-state residents except those who are considered "essential workers, are traveling to care for a vulnerable person, or who will stay for a minimum of 14 days". This is due to new restrictions imposed by the state due to COVID. I'm not sure how they will enforce any of this\.

I have a reservation for Saturday night this weekend, and I called the hotel to find out whether they would let me stay (I am a California resident). Hotel told me they would honor my reservation, but they were not accepting new reservations except for folks deemed essential. I guess this will be the norm for the next 3 weeks, at least.

Allowing in-state residents would be against the letter and spirit of the order they are trying to comply with here, which makes no distinction between non-essential travel from in-state vs out-of-state residents IIRC.

which I get but the email from hyatt make it sound like in-star residents are okay.

I received the same notification from Hyatt.
My stay in LA was dec 10 to dec 11.
i work in financial services so CA seems to consider us as “essential workers”.
But this is not a business trip anyway.
The last minute cancellation sucks.

I really sympathize with the properties trying to deal with the ever-changing governmental policies.
As a practical matter, there's no meaningful way to enforce the "essential worker" or "traveling to care for a vulnerable person" restrictions, at least not consistent with American cultural and political norms.

wonder if Marriott and/or Hilton are following suit. I was at the Hyatt LAX last week. i dodged a bullet.

Also pretty hard to enforce the "resident" part, since there is no mandatory public state of resident registry in the US.
