RC's closed due to low occupancy

The D.C. Capitol Hyatt closed their RC and rooftop restaurant due to low occupancy. That sounds pretty cheap to me. If there are guests paying for RC level rooms, and Diamond guests, they should have the RC open.

The lobby cafe here looks quite busy since there is no RC and no main restaurant.

Are other Hyatts doing the same?

Mrs LP is at the Waikiki HR tonight. Not sure if the RC is open or not, but it's so deserted that only one restaurant is open at the property.

Very sad.

Horrible news! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

This is sad. Sad for all the employees that are losing their livelihood with little hope to find other work, at least in the short run. Also sad for the owners and shareholders.

It is sad for all the Diamonds (we are Diamonds) too. It seems like an unfair deal to not get what one bargained for in the past. Hopefully things will return to normal soon. Hopefully, they are giving an extra bottle of wine or ? to Diamond menbers and chits for free appitizers in any open eatery plus chits for free breakfast to "honor" their contract with Diamond members.

Nothing extra for me this week as a Diamond other than a nice suite upgrade. But the room wasn't being used by anyone else.

Do we really feel sorry for the hotel owners? They made plenty of hay while the sun was shining. I think they should keep around an employee or two to handle the RC. The Sheraton I stayed in last week kept their club open. The message that seems to be sent to us travelers is to avoid Hyatt in this period of downturn.

LIH Prem Oct 2, 2001 10:36 pm

And stay where, stimpy?

Sheraton's quality is variable. Westin doesn't have clubs. Marriott is also closing their clubs.

The clubs will reopen when America starts traveling again.

If you know the Sheraton is good, then stay there since their clubs are open. In some cities I choose Sheraton, and in others I choose Hyatt or perhaps Hilton. Most of us know the properties well and can ask here if we don't.

And this American never stopped traveling. Nor did the couple hundred or so guests at the D.C. Hyatt this week. I still don't see an excuse for laying off the staff and closing the club.

Reston did not open the RC on Monday morning due to low occupancy but by that evening everything was back to normal even to there was not much of a crowd.
I'm now at the HR in Louisville and the place is completely filled with conventioneers. This is the first time since the attack that we have seen a hotel with a crowded lobby. Too bad there's no RC here and the Diamond members need to beg for a breakfast coupon.

I'm staying at the HR Rochester, NY. The RC is closed, but without asking they did give me a bkfst coupon at check-in last nite.

Today I'm off to the HR Buffalo. We'll see about the RC there. I doubt it'll be open since it's a weekend nite.

doc Oct 5, 2001 11:28 am

I do not think they have a RC in Buffalo now for several years! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Doc,

Just checked in, you're right. No RC.

Well, I love Hyatt and like the Capitol Hill Hyatt as well, but I had a less than ideal stay here a few months ago. No nothin' - including losing my reservation. perhaps a post 911 pickup caught them short staffed! Supposedly, they will take good care of me when I return! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Has the Capitol Hill Hyatt RC finally been reopened. I believe, in contrast, the Grand Hyatt has maintained their RC and keep it open - even I understand on weekends. ANy recent experiences here?

Thanks! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Sorry, but after my last Hyatt stay in D.C., I choose to stay at the St. Regis or Westin Grand now.

However I just stayed at the Minneapolis Hyatt and the RC was very nice.
