Yeah I wish the breakfast was given to diamonds in the restaurant . I dread the breakfast in the lounge it isn't as good as Any other of the Hyatt in Australia they need to add some hot dishes especially in cold winter Canberra

Currently in house used a Dsu standard park suite. Some problems with the lounge over capacity so was offered alternative in the tea lounge. Was allowed one selection from the appetiser menu and one from the dessert menu. Also can confirm no hot items offered in the lounge during canaps anymore from the FOM . Also drinks similar to the ambassador lounge. Appetisers include :
Soup of the day
Haloumi cheese
Tandoori chicken
Heirloom beet
Salt & pepper squid
Mooloolaba king prawns (3)
Truffle gnocchi
And a anti-pasto platter for two.

Also the full buffet breakfast here is one of the better ones around. Usually if I see strawberries or champagne it's beyond the norm. There was strawberries today amongst other exciting options

There have been some mid-level management changes here of late, in addition to a new GM.

Several duty managers have left which is disappointing. Meanwhile, a couple of previous duty managers have returned. The young gentleman who runs the Ambassador Lounge has also moved on (although he will be around on a very casual basis).

There have been significant improvements to the lounge. Hot canapes have returned to the evening and there are now up to three hot options for breakfast. Lounge seating has also been increased.

Just had a one night stay here.
From reading this forum, I realised that Club Deluxe King is sort of regarded as a suite??? so the best we could be upgraded to is Club King.... which we were.
What was weird was at checkin we were told we could have a club deluxe but pay extra.
When I questioned that (before I remembered about the confusion of what the best room under suite is) she said they are full.
So, already feeling 'cheated' of my diamond rights
But the club king is fine.
Very quiet room (424)
Didn't have any drinks or nibbles at night but the breakfast is better than last visit with the three hot items now being offered.
On a side not, I really love the soap here.
It is a gorgeous lemon scented one

Any recent experiences as a diamond here?
I'm thinking of renting a car from SYD Mon AM and driving along the coast and visiting some small towns before finishing up in Canberra in the evening and staying there till Wed.
How is the parking situation around the hotel? Is there street parking? It doesn't seem like they offer any free self-parking anymore.
How is the lounge? Does one happen to know the hours for breakfast and dinner snacks? Is there hot food available?
And for the return to Sydney, would one recommend taking the train or driving back?

Parking is still free at the outdoor parking spaces just around the hotel. Covered parking attracts normal parking fees. Breakfast at lounge i believe is 6am to 10am on weekdays and 6:30am to 10:30am on weekends. Evening cocktails is standard from 6pm to 8pm all days. Hot food is available during both sessions.

Depending on what time you are driving back to sydney, you may face significant traffic jams on the hume highway. Best option is to fly up to sydney as it shouldn't be too expensive if you book far in advance. QF normally has prices like $149 per way.

Flying is an option, but I was also considering the train. Seems that there are a few train options that could work.
The goal was to leave around 11am from the Hyatt Canberra and head to Sydney.

It can be a long day's drive South along the coast to Bateman's bay then across to Canberra if you want to stop a few times. (The drive in from the coast requires a steep climb.)

Then again there's generally some pretty good oysters to be had along the way.

So the view should be excellent with great snacks along the way?
Sounds like a nice day drive

Hyatt Hotel Canberra

Check In

We arrived after a 3 hour drive from Sydney and there were no bellboys to valet the car. There were no staff at the front of the hotel. The older guests arriving at the same time as us had no help with their luggage and none of the doors are automatic so we helped them.

Check in was swift and the receptionist pointed to where our room is. PH standard is, especially for Globalists, is to be escorted to the room by the duty manager. Globally, PH staff are trained to never ever point for directions, but if anyone asks to escort them to where they need to go.

We said that our car was at the front of the hotel and needed to be valeted. The Concierge appeared and took the keys, but there were still no bellman.

Room

We utilised a TSU for Park Suite King and I specifically requested a view of Lake Burley Griffin.

We were allocated a suite in the back corner which must be only one of two rooms with a Lake view which was positive. It also had two vathrooms.

The air con couldn’t cope with the 35 degree heat and was extremely loud throughout the day and night. The vases and other glassware in the room were bizarre in bright red colours and totally out of design with the room and the hotel. The couch is from Fantastic Furniture which is a very cheap nationwide furniture store. All of the furniture was scratched and scuffed.

While the marble bathrooms look luxurious, the tapware is from the 1970s. Two PowerPoints were inoperable.

The bed was very soft and made for an uncomfortable sleep.

Service

We didn't think the service could get worse, but we called for our car 20 mins before we intended to depart.

We checked out at reception and asked the one bellyboy we found for the keys. We walked outside to find the car unlocked which is unacceptable, but began to load our luggage.

Over 20 mins passed and I saw the bellyboy staring at us from inside. I asked him for the keys and he said "They aren't in the car?"

He then disappeared for another 5 mins before bringing them out.

Dining

It may be one of the few PHs with a lounge, but the Ambassador lounge food offerings appeared to be days old, especially the salads with wilted lettuce and vegetables and the liquor was the cheapest possible brands.

The lounge attendant was lovely but this was perhaps one of the worst lounges for F&B we have experienced. The HR SYD suprpasses their offerings in every possible way.

We returned to the hotel at 10PM and wanted to have some cocktails and a bite to eat. We found the bar already closed. The website states it is open until 1AM on Saturdays.

We ended up retreating to the room and ordering room service and drinking from the minibar.

We chose to have breakfast in the restaurant and it was equally disappointing. The fruit was certainly not fresh and the coffee sub par.

Overall

I think I was previously blinded to just how bad the Hyatt Hotel Canberra is because of their upgrades to Ambassador suites in the past.

Overall, the Hyatt Hotel Canberra is a really really poor excuse for a PH and  simply not good enough.

Not PH standard and just not good enough

The face that it’s part of the PH brand is a joke.

I received a response to my complaint that was basically ‘I have no excuses,’ yet there was no offer of improvement or rectification.

my friends stay at Hotel Realm now.

That I don't know but it would be a logical (although surprising) conclusion.

The Park Hyatt I'm staying at now has this nice little boxset of all the Park Hyatts which includes this breakdown:

Being in the capital city I would imagine it as a business hotel not a "resort." Politicians don't like to be seen staying at a resort while on official business. Sort of like calling the PH Washington a resort.
