2001 Diamond Kit
 

On the road for few weeks. I did not get my 2001 kit before I departed.

I am currently at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong in an executive suite on the Regency Club. Great view love this hotel.

What is in the 2001 Diamond kit? Any suite upgrade certificates?

I haven't received mine either, (then again I haven't gotten my Hilton Gold, nor Starwood Platinum kits for 2001).

Got my kit. Had a diamond card and one suitue upgrade certificate good for up to four nights.

I received mine about 3 weeks ago. Same as noted in the previous post. One suite upgrade certificate and a new card. That was about it.

Still haven't received mine, but I have a question about the suite upgrade. Is it confirmable at time of reservation, or just based on availablilty?? If the latter is the case, isn't it the same as what a Diamond is supposed to get on a regular basis, without a coupon?

Got mine today. Interesting to note that I didn't get a suite upgrade, but instead a Regency Club or Business Plan Upgrade, subject to availability upon check in. Woopdedoo

In the Diamond Kit? A certificate for a benefit that you already receive for free as a Diamond?

What's next, a certificate for "check cashing privileges" and another one for a "30% bonus on base points"? How about a coupon for a "free Diamond amenity"?

Bizarre... I'd call them to see if they made a mistake.

The suite upgrade certificate is not confirmable at booking. It is based on availability when checking in. Many times diamond's are lucky to get on the RC let alone a suite. It really depends on the property. However, with the certificate all properties, not prohibited on certificate, will allow you the suite.

In my experience, the suite certificates are something to keep in your wallet and ask to use them every time. And start asking well before expiration, because you will get turned down many times on average before entering the hallowed suite.

Diamonds get Regency Club or Business Plan as the "next level up". I didn't think that the policy was "best available". If so, I will start walking up to the counter, asking if Suite number XXX is empty so that I can rent it for a night and when they say it is, yell "Aha! I shall take it for free as a Diamond!"

Somehow I don't think that would work. The Baltimore staff would probably take me out back and shoot me in the head, Baltimore-gangland style.

i tried a few times with that suite coupon last year, every time there is an excuse. and i still have that suite upgrade today...unused;(

but since i stayed over 100 night the previous years at one of the property, and got to know the director of VIP service fairly well, she gave me suite a few times....so that does depend on property.

however, the coupon book does come with some airline bonus codes and 1-way upgrade on US/etc.

Several years ago I had a suite coupon expire after trying to use it every week. I sadly had to throw it away. Today I would mail it back to Hyatt's customer service and ask for another one.

I fell for this scheme with Continental when I was new to the FF game and quite naive. I bought the packet of miles and upgrades for new members for $50 or $75 but each upgrade was on a "space available" basis. Since Continental will upgrade -anyone- with status above a new member holding that flimsy coupon, I asked and asked and was always sent back to my middle seat in coach. I wonder if any of those coupons have ever been redeemed...

Most upgrade coupons are worthless, and some have negative value, such as Hertz's "use this SPECIAL CODE, pay $10 more a day than the discounted rate, and get a FREE UPGRADE!"

No kit for me in UK yet.
