Airport Transportation

The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.

Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.

For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.

AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).

I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).

UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.

Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

I'm happy with this hotel. On a Prive rate. It turns out that globalists get restaurant breakfast if they want, anyway.

I applied a TSU. They further upgraded me one suite level to the King Executive Suite (not sure if due to globalist, or Prive, or both). The fresh bowl of fruit in the room, replenished every day, is a VERY nice touch. I assume that this is standard for the suite since it's in the picture of the room description.

Today when I got back from being out all afternoon, I found handwritten note from the person who checked me in yesterday, and a plate of mango and sticky rice from room service waiting for me.

The bar in the lounge is well stocked for happy hr. Lots of selection. Mid-end stuff, but nice.

Restaurant breakfast buffet was good. I made the mistake of eating too much and not getting to enjoy much local food during the day. I'll eat lighter tomorrow morning

The bed is comfortable, the suite is big, the service is good, and the food is good. I'm happy

We were at GH Erawan in May for 3 nights on Corporate rate (reservation for 2), TSU was applied last Sept when I was here. There were 3 of us, my wife and college grad daughter.

At check in they scanned all 3 passports and granted all 3 of us GC access and breakfast in the restaurant. Roll away bed was requested for the corner Grand Suite King. Nothing was said about 3rd person fee and no extra fees at check out.

We later transited Bangkok and stayed at SGS for 1 night, using my SPG (now Bonvoy) AMEX anniversary free night cert. I was charged 1900 THB for 3rd person, which is ~$70 all in. We were upgraded to a Luxury Suite (I had requested during pre-arrival email exchange) with roll away bed. Happy Hour at Barsu was great as usual, although bar snacks are just that, not nearly as good as GH GC, but much better cocktails. Breakfast at SGS was superior and more extensive. I was prepared to pay the 3rd person fee, and I appreciated the Titanium benefits applied to 3rd person as well.

Summary: Staying at GH Erawan saved me ~$210 for the 3 nights vs SGS. I would rate SGS slightly higher than GH Erawan.

I actually had a 2nd stay here in May.

I did not apply a TSU. They almost didn't upgrade me despite there being a suite available. I pointed out that it was available, and they said that it was a smoking room, and my preferences indicate a non-smoking room. I told them that I didn't care, and they gave me the suite.

I wish that there was a way to indicate that I prefer a non-smoking room if all else is equal, but my preference for a larger room or suite should take precedence. There isn't, so I just changed my smoking / non-smoking preference to "no preference".

Don't think I ever followed up on my crappy experience here: I had emailed the GM to share my feedback. It took many follow ups to even get a response, which ended up being entirely lackluster. Zero recovery offered aside from a "next category upgrade" on my next visit. Haha this is only useful because they don't upgrade people like they're supposed to 🙄.

Also a whole paragraph about how they have a zero tolerance policy on solicitation and work with the police and security guards to ensure it doesn't happen on property. How he can say that with a straight face when Spasso is well known to be a bar that offers working girls beats me e.g. https://www.theflyingdandy.com/listi...-club-bangkok/

So basically, a whole lot of nothing. Truly one of the worst hotels in Bangkok.

My recent experience was better, but I was travelling with a friend. The suite upgrade got us a decent suite at the end of a corridor. The only issue was that an extended family had the room next door and the one across the corridor so there was a good deal of noise.

The Grand Club lounge was fine and it is a useful location.
For the first time I used a tour pre-booked through the hotel - turned out to be OK and we persuaded the guide not to take us to the gem factory at the end of the tour. Did get to see much of the city sights on the way to/from the river.

The afternoon tea at the Cafe Erawan (available on Klook) was a bit disappointing.

Otherwise my stay was fine. But no better than that.

Nope, only Andaz and various Starriotts in Singapore.

How's the GH there? I've heard good things. (But then again I heard good things about this GH too)

At least PH offered me a suite upgrade next stay (that will never happen).

Brix below the Grand Hyatt Singapore much better fits the profile of a bar with a reputation for many bar girls. In regards to that, Spasso is not even in the same league as Brix at Singapore's Grand Hyatt. Spasso is not much different than other hotel bars in BKK, including bars at other acclaimed 5 star hotels. It is hard to take comments complaining about bar girls at the Erawan Grand Hyatt's Spasso seriously, without proper context to other bars in BKK.

On my first stay here I applied a TSU, and they upgraded me to the next level of suite (which is slightly bigger, though not that different, but still appreciated. The standard suites are true suites and quite large)

On my 2nd stay (noted above) the only suite was a smoking room so they did not automatically upgrade me since my preferences said non-smoking, but they upgraded me when I asked. I've since changed that preference in my profile.

I'm not sure what the complaints are about not upgrading people when they are supposed to. I haven't had a problem so far.

As far as there being prostitutes... so what? We are all adults right? Just say "no thanks" and move on. Personally I'm not sure why anyone would pay for it in BKK but I don't have a problem with it so long as they aren't being aggressive or harassing people. If they are, just report it to security.

This is my go-to Hyatt in BKK. The regency seems a lot less nice for not much less money, and the PH seems nicer, but not enough of a difference to justify the huge price jump. This hotel seems to be in the sweet spot for value.

Also, great restaurant breakfast (free for globalists -- this is over and above since they could limit the benefit to the lounge breakfast) and the fruit bowl, replenished daily, in the suites is a nice touch.

The working girls are only in the bar Spasso on the lower level. They aren't roaming the property, so knowing that, if it's something you don't want to experience, just don't go there. There's really nothing interesting to see in Spasso anyway unless you are into overpriced drinks, etc.

Totally agree with conde's comments.

There is also another very good bar at the Erawan. Spasso, however, does have very good service and is enjoyable even if one is not interested in any companionship, as it were. I go there with friends and enjoy the music sometimes.

Any hotel in Bangkok that caters to affluent business travelers, i.e. often foreign men traveling alone, with a night club on site is bound to attract this type of clientele. It is also the case at the similar venue at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, among many other hotels.
