Airport Transportation
The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.
Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.
For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.
AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).
I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).
UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.
Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

I'm sorry that my original question was off-topic and seems to have caused controversy. The reason I posted it here was that there are some frequent posters in this thread whose opinion I value and respect.
...
We will go ahead and book the GH Erawan and hope for the best.

I do not think your question was off topic. Given the hotel's central location, it and the neighbouring hotels are more likely to be affected in the case of any kind of protest. Also, by posting in this thread you'll get responses from regular guests of the hotel.

I hope you have a great time, the Erawan is my favorite Hyatt hotel in the world.

for the last 13-years I've lived one soi from the Hyatt and currently there are absolutely no problems in this area nor anywhere else in Bangkok and frankly, none expected either.

Political unrest would more likely be a nuisance to visitors in terms of transportation, noise, and temporary closure of shops, department stores, and restaurants etc... (although even then there will never be a shortage of delicious food in this city, especially at the Erawan which has excellent F&B).

And even if there were another "problem" it is extremely unlikely that the situation would put a visitor or locals at risk of physical danger as long as one used common sense and avoided any area of contention.

But I guess mentioning the airport problem would be off topic, so I'll just say that we could live with being stuck in the Erawan for a few days.

thankfully, the current gov't isn't anything like previous ones where activists, of any color, could get away with these types of antics.
The images that caused me pause were remembering (not clearly most likely) of tourists being stuck in the airport for a couple of days a few years ago.

I can think of worse places to be "stuck" for a few days...
As already noted, an airport closure is not going to happen.
Rest assured that due to the high profile of the local and international clientele of the Erawan, it is one of the most secure hotels in the city.

Has anyone taken the shuttle from Hua Hin back to the GH when not staying at the Hyatt Hua Hin? I realize emailing is probably easier but figured I'd see if others had done it before wasting my time if it was a non-starter.
We're staying at Centara in Hua Hin but then heading back to BKK and the GH and the shuttle seems to be the cheapest reasonable option (Mr. Eak was suggested in other threads but no response from him as of yet).

Early check-in or late check-out?
Hi all,
We are planning to stay at the Erawan on the 22nd. Our flight gets in to BKK at 06:10 and the connection is at midnight the same day.
By the time we reach the hotel it may be 08:00 ish, and we would have to leave at 9:00 pm or so.
Given that check in is at 2 pm and check out at noon, would it be better to reserve for the 21st and hope for a VERY late check out, or book for the 22nd and hope for a VERY early check in?
Thanks for any tips. My wife is a platinum member.
Confused,

Best bet is to contact the hotel and ask them if they can accommodate your situation and let them lay out the options for you. You may end up with a one night booking with early check in, or a one night booking with a late check out, or some other combination. They are usually VERY willing to help and accommodating.

Thank you both for the tips. I am writing to them.
BTW, we are going to make the reservation using awards and not $ which I hope will not make a difference in their response. . . ? I guess I won't mention this in my query.
Thanks again,
ATD

Re award vs revenue, depends on the property and manager. Even as a Courtesy Card member, I have seen when this makes a difference for flexibility, upgrades and more

See what they offer you. If they have the availability they'll accommodate you. Even if availability is tight, this could work out well for them if they have other guests departing very early and others arriving very late, in which case they can essentially sell the same room twice on the same day.
