Airport Transportation

The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.

Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.

For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.

AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).

I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).

UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.

Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

Thanks. I have a 5 night DSU stay there next year. While a regular suite will suite just fine (pun intended), let's hope for a bigger one

Is there any reason this property is priced about $70/night higher than the 4 seasons in december? I was thinking about staying here but i received the four seasons at the same rate. Any thoughts between this and the 4S for a diamond member?

Thanks!

Train to Hyatt from BKK. A few questions:
1.Can someone shed light on how long this usually takes and names of the stop you need to change at and the Hyatt stop
2. Does the express train from BKK mentioned here(if its running)go all the way from BKK to Hyatt with no change needed?
3. What are fares for regular and first class.

Last time I was in BKK I had the most horrendous traffic to the hotel. If there is an express train direct to hotel bring it on I say

Thanks in advance!

The transportation page for each hotel is always a good starting point: http://www.bangkok.grand.hyatt.com/e...portation.html
The trains are a bit of a hassle though, you want stop E1 or S1, as you can see on this map: http://www.bangkok-city.com/go/info_transportation.html

Take the airport train to Phaya Thai and change to the line heading to Bearing. Get off that line at Chitlom and walk on the bridge to the Erawan mall where you enter and then go down a level and into the hotel. Expect an 1-1.2 hours or so I guess.

With the train departing BKK every 20 min and taking 28 (+/-) to get to Phaya Thai followed by no more than a 10 min stretch on BTS to Chit Lom it would be no more than an hour at the worst.... 45 min best.

Don't forget to include time involved to schlep your luggage around and up & down stairs where there are no escalators at train station.

Here is a rule of thumb, if you are traveling alone and light on luggage, experience the train. Otherwise, spare yourself the troubles and take a taxi ... they are cheap & plentiful!

Except that with Bangkok traffic, including the ongoing construction on Sukhumvit, it can be quite a long ride. Which is why OP was asking about the train:

No up and/down stairs necessary until the very end.

At BKK there are escalators down to the platform. At Phaya Thai there is now a down escalator from the train platform on the east end. From the ticketing level there is also an escalator down to the level that connects to BTS.

Once inside the BTS gates there's an escalator up and that leaves only the stairs down from the Chit Lom platform since we've already established that access to the GH can be had from the elevated walkway.

Arrive at BKK ARL with 19 mins till the next train. 28 mins to get to PT. 7 mins to get to the BTS platform. Wait 7 mins for next train. 10 mins to Chitlom. 10 mins to lounge. ~81 mins

If you had walked a bit faster that time would have certainly been less.

Recent stay experiences

So, just stayed at the GH BKK this past Monday and Tuesday. P+C and a DSU, so Executive Suite which was great. I arrived after 10pm into BKK and had some luggage, so did the taxi. At that time of the evening, no real traffic issues and the route he took avoided both Suk and Phloen Chit Rds. The driver refused to use the meter, so I gave him THB200 which he felt was low as he wanted 400. I told him he should have used the meter, which the Bell Captain told me might have been over 400 with the tolls.

Everything was great EXCEPT the terrible mold in the steam room and men's Jacuzzi. I told the spa staff but didn't go back to check to see if it was cleaned up. It was definitely something that has been ignored for some time.

I hadn't stayed here since 2006, which they reminded me of, so the GC was a bit of a let down. Especially, compared to the IC BKK, where I'm staying now. Seems that the food and beverage selection at many of the Hyatt clubs has been cut back, especially compared to the IC's club offerings.

Not cool giving only THB200.
