The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.
Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.
For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.
AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).
I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).
UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.
Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

True, the final touch ups are being conducted for the top upper floor, and they won't be ready for guests until early 2015.

Worth booking a room during long transit through Bangkok?
Perused recent pages in this thread, but still have questions...
My wife and I will be transiting through Bangkok on Saturday, flying in from Taipei at 10:30 a.m. and flying out to Paris just after midnight. I've received some advice in another forum that the GH would be a nice place to base ourselves (probably using points) and relax if we wanted to go into Bangkok for the day, and that getting there via BTS (which I've never taken before, though I've been to Bangkok several times) is easy and even preferable to a taxi during the rainy season. I'm also under the impression that you can go straight from the BTS station to the hotel without going outside. This all sounds good to me, but I just wanted to run this by folks. We'd be traveling fairly light, with just carry-on wheelies for luggage, FWIW.
Also, is booking a room that gives access to the Club Lounge worth it? When is happy hour there? And are renovations such that the hotel might be very noisy during the day?
If we do go to the hotel, any advice on things to do in the immediate area? I realize there are malls nearby and the Erawan Temple. Also, any advice on restaurants nearby? This being our only day in Thailand on this trip, we'd definitely prefer Thai.
We'd consider opting for massages as part of the brief stay, but are flying out that night on Thai Airways in F, so can get massages in the airport spa.

So if they are stalling deliberately it is not due to demand reasons.
I do agree having suites out of order is a shame.

Only you can decide if it's worth your time/effort to book a hotel room since you probably won't be using it much (and you better make sure that one is available for check-in before te official check-in time). That being said, the GH is a very nice hotel.
For your questions:
- taking the BTR is easy, you just have to make one transfer and the GH stop does enable you to take a covered walkway into the shopping/area and then the hotel. Just a very minor walk with some escalators and stairs to get you into the lobby.
- The club is great too. Decent selection of food, easily enough for a light dinner. In my recollection evening opening hours are 18:00-21:00.
- Renovations are on the top floors, you won't be bothered much (if at all) when getting a room on one of the lower floors. But will you be in the room much?
- I always like to take the BTR to the water and take a boat ride to one of the temples when I'm short on time. But you can easily visit any site you would want, if it fits your schedule. Plenty of restaurants as well in the area.
But frankly if I look at your schedule and knowing you are flying Thai F to Paris I wouldn't bother getting a hotel. Why not simply dump your luggage at the airport, see some of the sites in BKK and then go back to the Thai lounge for some food/drinks and that massage. Showers will be available to you at the airport and between the time you are in the city (probably 12:00 at the earliest) and having to leave for the airport (20:00 if you want to have that leasurly massage) it might not be worth it paying for a hotel.

I second the suggestion of taking a boat ride on the river. I also really enjoy Terminal 21 on Suhkumvit (and I usually don't like malls). It's quirky and they have lots of local goods at very reasonable prices. The food court on the top floor is also kind of fun, even if all you get is a fruit shake (for only 30-35 baht).
In addition to the Hyatt, note that the Hilton properties are really cheap using either points or cash and points.

Personally with those timings I would definitely go into the city and definitely get a hotel. Bangkok is a hot and sweaty place and you are long way from your 'shower and refresh' location of the TG F lounge when in the city. The convenience of being able to pop back to your room to freshen up/relax/sleep and go back out again (if you wish) far outweighs worrying about the cost, especially when you think what you can get for your money in Bangkok.

Despite the horror stories my experiences with just taking a cab have been quite good. I never felt the need to take the BTS. Probably not much difference in travel time, although the taxi can be a bit more variable.

1.) Hyatt private car transfer (~$90)
2.) AOT private car which you can setup at the airport (~$50? I am not positive)
3.) Local taxi ($20)
Never tried the BTS. Was always told it is slower. Anyways, I am usually arriving and departing at off hours when I am guessing it isn't running (4am).
