Airport Transportation

The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.

Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.

For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.

AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).

I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).

UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.

Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

Guy Betsy, you get unlimitid 2for1 coupons, so that every stay you have a daily rate of +/- USD80,- or you get only a few of these coupons ?

You talked about reciprocal benefits, so there also exist a Thai CATH-membership with these kind of coupons?? or am I wrong ? Do you know by any chance whether this memberhship is strictly for Thai residents only ?

</font>
I don't get an unlimited amount of coupons, but I have friends who give me theirs and I exchanged my Free Parking coupons for more 2for1 stay coupons instead. One gets about 4 per joining kit I think. I don't remember.

Only the SINGAPORE CATH programme gives you these 2for1 coupons which can be used for all SE Asian properties excluding Bali (but in view of recent events, maybe this will be included in the near future).

Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok?

I did a search, but did not find very much.
I'm just a basic Gold Passport, but I do have a 'Complimentary Suite Upgrade' coupon. The rate I'm getting on line is $145 per night.
Should I grab it? Are the suites nice?
For the first 3 nights I will be staying at the Conrad Hilton, to get stay credit and also because they have a fantastic rate of $99, plus upgraded to Executive room already. I have 3 more nights in Bangkok so this suite coupon is very tempting. Is the hotel nice? Is the deal worth it?
What if any chance I have of getting a better "walk-in" rate, since I'll be there 3 days before, I could maybe negotiate.
Thanks for any and all info.

It has been over two years, but the suites are pretty nice. Nothing opulent, but modern, spacious with a nice bathroom. The hotel is great.

Is it a confirmed suite upgrade? I've stayed here a lot and have never seen the inside of a suite, so if its space-available, you might not actually get one. I think they may have a relatively limited #.
The rooms are beautiful (modern Hyatt with Thai touches) so I assume the suites are as well.

Still, its one of my favorite hotels, period.

The staff is wonderful, the Grand Club is exquisite imho, and the location is primo. Ask for a room facing the racecourse.

Seems a bit pricey in this most competitive of all Asian cities when it comes to luxury hotels.

Do a web search; unless the hyatt.com rate guarantee has been seriously researched in Bangkok, a local travel agency might well offer better rates.

You won't be disappointed at the Hyatt, but
unless you have to be right downtown, consider the Oriental or Peninsula, which frequently head lists of the best hotels in the world. A year ago, we had an upgraded room with breakfast at the Peninsula for $140/night, and it was a wonderful experience.

I have always found the Hyatt pricey for what you get. they are very stingy with suite upgrades and as Diamond I have NEVER been able to get one.so if you have the uncomnfirmed type I think unless they have changed their attitude you will be disappointed.
The Regency club is nice.
I have heard the conrad is wonderful.

I have seen both, the executive rooms and lounge at the Conrad and suites at the Hyatt.

In your case I would take the Conrad for the whole period - and save my voucher for a different hotel.

I have to disagree on the suite upgrade thing, most of the time they worked for us.

Me too. I have had good success with suite upgrades there, but most of the stays were before the program changes of late 2000, which eliminated the suite upgrades.

In fact, I don't think I was upgraded after the program changed.

I was upgraded as a Diamond to a suite last month.
Very nice. It has good Regency Club .A more than adequate breakfast and evening snacks means that you only have to pay for lunch.
It is a little distant from other areas, but it is near the skytrain.
Nice hotel, I would go for it and take the chance.

Thanks for all the info.
I've decided to wait till I get to BKK. As it turns out, the Hyatt is practically across the street from the Conrad. I will walk over there the day before, ask to see the room/suite, their best rate and finally show them the coupon. If the rate is acceptable, and they will guarantee the suite upgrade, I will return next day. If not I could always extend my stay at the Conrad.
Thanks again.

As a Diamond, I was here, this past May. Service was outstanding--upon my arrival at 12:30AM, I was met at the front door, escorted to the check in desk, where they had everything ready for me, and greeted me by name. (Then again, they did know my flight arrival time & I imagine not too many others were checking in at that time.) My room was nothing special, but the bath was nice with separate shower. I was on the RC floor, and yes it is spectacular! The RC has a great view of the nearby racecourse and the 'business skyline' of BKK. Even though the RC was open, I was still given complimentary access to the wonderful breakfast buffet. I found the location very good, only a short distance from the skytrain, near shoppes, restaurants etc. Also there is a beautiful shrine right on the corner of the building, where graceful Thai dancers perform, while the faithful make offerings.

Mauld I've stayed there about 10 times and I've always arrived at 12:30 am coming off of UA 875. It's such a pleasant place to go after the very long journey. I really love the girls who work the Grand Club. They're really super and treat us like old friends every time we go back...

Slightly off topic, but that is the Erawan Shrine, hence the name of the hotel, which was called the Erawan hotel before it was redeveloped into the current property.
