Airport Transportation

The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.

Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.

For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.

AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).

I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).

UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.

Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

Well the Prive $100 credit and the 3rd night free paired with the currently extraordinarily low rates in BKK.

HR and PH both still have this promotion but of course much higher headline rates. Don't ask me how the Hyatt Regency thinks they can command double the rate than what GH BKK has. Fantasy world!

I generally like HR and perhaps a notch above GH due to newer hardware, but at those rates I agree with you, I cannot justify booking at HR, not even close.

Has anyone used the Club Lounge in GH this year? How do they offers compare to Hyatt Regency Sukhumvit? I'm currently in HR and thinking if to stay a week at GH as well or to stick to HR.
How is the GH breakfast? Still limited buffet style or has it improved?

I stayed at HR last month for a month, and now staying at GH - stick to HR as food offering interim of taste and quality at the club lounge is much better at HR and breakfast if HR still a-lar-carte it is still far superior than limited choices breakfast here at GH. However, GH is about 1000 THB cheaper and in much better area for outside food, so depending on what you prioritize

Thanks! I'll stick to HR then for extra week or two. I'm actually currently staying at HR at about same rate as GH, negotiated directly with hotel..

Review of the Grand Hyatt Bangkok (November 2021)

It’s my second stay at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok this month. Got upgraded to a Grand suite both times (Globalist/Privé) and I would like to share my views about the hotel.

The Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok is very well located, close to the BTS stations Chit Lom and Ratchadamri as well as to Central World and other big shopping malls. There is a connection from the lower lobby through a small mall to the skywalk. That means, that you can walk to the BTS Chit Lom, Central World, Siam Paragon, Big C or the new Apple store without getting wet by rain or burned by the sun.

Most important basics for me at a hotel are the bed and the shower. Both are excellent at the Grand Hyatt Erawan. While I‘ve experienced excellent bed/mattresses at Hyatt hotels always, I can‘t tell the same about the shower facilities. At the Grand Hyatt Erawan I had a rainforest shower - with water coming our like rain in the rainforest - and an extra shower head, which can be used both at the same time.

My room was equipped with big tvs, a Nespresso coffee machine, mini bar and everything you need to prepare tea. It’s easy to control the ac and the light with the control devices. You find plenty of power sockets for your own electronic devices. If you draw the curtains, the room is really dark.

So far to the hotel‘s hardware. But more important for an excellent hotel is to provide an excellent service. Excellent service consists of a wide variety of services, the quality of the services and of the way the services are provided. First of all the Grand Hyatt Erawan provides all services of a luxury hotel. 24h in-room-dining, turndown service, limousine service, a couple of good restaurants and many more.

I‘ve found the quality of the services great as well. The in-room-dining was really good (I have tried a couple of Thai dishes). The breakfast offer is very good, including Asian breakfast meals. The housekeeping was without a flaw. Everything is clean and with the turndown service you can get fresh towels twice a day. The hotel limousines are luxury cars like S350. The Grand Hyatt Erawan has a famous night club with live music - Spasso -, which is closed right now due to anti-corona measurements.

I‘ve been one of the first visitors under the sandbox Bangkok program and I‘m reading reading the reports of other travelers here at FT and at other forums for frequent travelers. Form my point of view the Grand Hyatt Bangkok handled the new sandbox program in an excellent way. They‘ve adopted the sandbox program very fast, the communication was fast and very reliable and their premium packages was absolutely top notch. While guests at many other hotels had to stay in their room for eight hours or even until the next morning, I‘ve got my test results within an hour after getting in my room (officially it‘s up to two hours) and was free to go. You need to have a great service minded attitude to provide an excellent service like that.

I‘ve found that service minded attitude on other occasions as well. The breakfast for example was provided in a highly friendly and courteous way. That counts even more as the service in restaurants is often a weak spot in Thailand. At the Grand Hyatt Erawan they‘ve turned it to a strength. You've got to love what you do to do it that way. That's passion.

So you can see, that I was really impressed by the Grand Hyatt Erawan. I‘ve been at many 5 star hotels in Bangkok so far. Even much more expensive hotels don‘t offer a wider variety of services or a better quality of service, while most of the cheaper hotels offer less services and in a less excellent quality. From my point of view the Grand Hyatt Erawan offers one of the best value for money of all hotels in Bangkok.

Glad you enjoy it! It was my go-to hotel in Bangkok during Covid with Prive rate, 2000++ THB/night with 100 USD credit, it was absolutely a steal. Now they reduce it to 50USD which still offers a great value. Don't miss out on You & Mee restaurant 😊

Their (GHE) web site promises 6 - 10 hour result, which is great. Remarkable that you got yours in an hour or two! Do you know who they are using for the testing?

I was pretty impressed my last stay as well. Rather than making covid excuses, it felt like they were making an extra effort to provide a quality guest experience.

They have 2 different packages at the GH Erawan. A premium one with <2 hours and S350 and a standard package, which takes longer and a standard Toyota car. I had the premium package 2 times so far. The 2nd time the result came after I‘ve been 51 minutes in my room. For me absolutely worth the price of THB 6,5k. Premium tests were at the MedPark hospital.

But: There are discussions going on if the PCR test on arrival will be replaced by an ATK test, maybe starting on December 1. In that case the test will be taken at the hotel with a waiting time of <30 minutes. A premium package doesn‘t make much sense then anymore. Maybe we will hear that good news soon.

Any idea what the turnaround times for the "standard" package are like? I assume you're confined to your hotel room until you receive your results back (no gym, pool, etc)?

Yes, you don‘t get your room cards before you have received the test result. But there are no guards watching you or your room.

The GHE handles it much better than the Conrad, where the t&g and sandbox guests get a room at the AQ area of the hotel. If you get the test result at the Conrad, you can leave the room, but you aren’t allowed to return to your room anymore.

I don’t know the time, when you get the results having the standard package. I guess at least 6 hours, but that’s just a guess.

I missed that premium package. Thanks. It's there if you make a dummy booking, you'll see it.

For the timing for the regular package ...

Make a dummy booking and click on the details. For the regular SHAP01 test and go (not the premium one) ...

Details
Daily breakfast per guest: - One Time RT-PCR test with 6-10 hour result prior to 6pm and 12-15 hour result after 6pm per registered guest - One way transfer (Camry or Commuter): Airport > PCR test drive through Hospital facility > Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok - Daily 2 pieces wash & fold laundry per guest when staying 7 nights or more - 30 percent off other laundry services, when staying 7 nights or more - 20 percent off Spa a la carte menu when charging to the room while staying 7 nights or more - 15 percent off Food and Beverage (excluding events, bakery retails & room service), while staying 7 nights or more
The premium one says 2 hours, as stated. For the date I looked at for 2 people, 1 night, standard t&g package was 8k+, premium was 11k+

Can anyone who's stayed in a spa villa here comment on privacy vis-a-vis the pool area? Considering pool villa here vs. one of the Thai suites at SGS.

Nice that the SHA packages are available to book through the normal channels, as opposed to having contact the property directly (like most properties are doing it).
